Well guys, I finally picked up my GG EX-L Navi on Monday. Overall my wife and I thrilled. Since I never drove an Ody before, I was pleased with the poise and power. One thing that immediately caught my eye was the inadequate audio system. There is just no punch in the system. I think the Ody is a great value otherwise, so I guess Honda had to cut corners somewhere.

I have to say the sound in my 95' Volvo 850 and my wife's 96' Maxima is much better. To top it off, my brother just took delivery of a new Lexus RX300, the sound in that thing is just incredible so although unfair, I naturally drew a comparison.

I've seen minimal talk about the poor audio quality on this forum. I am trying to determine the weak link, is it the head unit or the speakers? Has anyone tried any aftermarket solutions? How about the factory sub? Although I felt the sound was lacking midrange quality as well as in the bass dept.

Thanks in advance.

There are several good links in this section on audio upgrades! Search on Pioneer or speakers and read all the good advice, and good luck!

inadequate audio system.

I agree. Will upgrade with better speakers and a small subwoofer.

Lots and lots of info on this topic within this forum. Just browse back a couple of pages and you'll find alot.

Bottom line: the speakers here are the biggest bottleneck. Switch those first and reevaluate. Then see if you need more lower end (sub) or just more headroom (power). That will point you to your next step. Many aftermarket solutions have been done, from minimal, to very extensive. Many like the factory sub for its nice integration and placement. It's a little on the boomy side though for a real purist. Pioneer speakers are touted alot due to high price/performance and easy, drop-in-like fit for Hondas. Lots of options out there, it just depends on what your budget and expectations are.

Please browse back a bit as a start, search for some of the speaker threads, especially, and look at the tech section. Have more specific questions, let us know, we'll try to help. Also, keep in mind audio is very subjective; I'd recommend that if you are picky, go audition yourself to be sure you are happy, esp. in regards to speakers.

Good Luck, and congrats on getting your Ody! Hope to see you and your upgraded audio system at the meet!
