Whenever I open the driver's side door on my '07, it beeps. Just one soft fairly musical beep - that's all. Actually, it doesn't do it every time - it seems to be the first time it's opened in at least a few hours - and no, not always after it's been locked and unlocked. Just sitting with the doors closed for a few hours seems to be enough.

There's no dash indicator of any kind that I see.

Why does my Ody beep? Is it just happy to see me?

It's because the high-beam switch is on. Next time it happens, just check to see if the high beam light switch is in the on position.

I think you might be right - need to go test this.

Is this a deliberate design, or just some side effect? If it's deliberate, why isn't it documented or the "message" more obvious?

Yep, that's it. It only does it when the headlights are on high beam AND the interior lights are off... so if you try opening the door again to make it beep, it won't work until the theater lighting has gone off.

How strange. I can see it being useful to be reminded that your high beams are on, but this is as "disconnected" as having your taillights flash. Flashing the hi-beam marker would make more sense.

I think it must be an unintended side effect, an overlooked glitch in the electronics. At least I can stop going crazy trying to figure out what's beeping at me. Thanks!

I think the small chime is supposed to differentiate itself from the musical chime that sounds when the headlights are left on. I leave my headlights and high beam lights on all the time when parked. If I was driving with them off during the day, I turn them on when leaving the Ody. They go off 15 seconds after removing the key from the ignition and opening and closing the driver door. That way when I approach, the high beams, headlights, and tail lights all come on and stay on for 15 seconds when the remote unlocks the van. Its great when returning to the vehicle in the dark. Its also a lot easier to see that I have unlocked the car than trying to see those small orange parking lights blink.
