brake sound in reverse

I've noticed as I'm backing out of my driveway that if I ride the brake a little I hear the brakes squealing. Doesn't happen in any other situation. Could this be something else I'm hearing? I've only got 2100 miles on this 01 LX. The pads better not be wearing out already!

Okay, so no one else seems to have this problem. But today, as I was backing out of a driveway, the brakes sounded horrible! It never happens at any other time. Does anyone have a clue as to what could cause this sound?
Improper adjustment of your hand brake, or driving with the hand brake still on, may have caused premature wear of the rear brakes. Or, sticking piston in front calipers causing the same. Better pull off the wheels ASAP and inspect the pads. There is a metal pad that contacts the disk and makes the sound you describe when they wear down to minimum. Is there an inspection hole for the rear drums?
It's the calipers making noise. Honda dealer can lubricate them, but he said "it's kinda supposed to do that...you know the calipers are floating ok"
go figure.

Thank you so much for the info! Now I can rest a little easier. Both my husband and I were stumped, knowing that it couldn't be the pads yet. When we go in for our first service I'll have them lubricate the calipers if they really need it.

Thanks again!

My wife's 99 Odyssey started to make noise in reverse about a month ago but it is about service time since it is 1K short of 30K miles. I suppose it is a normal indication that the brakes or braking system shall be inspected. We will bring the van to service a month or so later when it gets over 30K. But with a 2K van, I wonder. Good luck!
We've recently encountered this problem with our '07. Does anyone know if there is a TSB out on this issue? I tried searching the '07 TSB list, but did not find anything that related to the issue specifically. Wondering if there's a more recent TSB that relates to this problem?

Also, on a side note, my '03 Civic w/48k is occasionally suffering power steering issues much like the same problem as many, including us, have experienced with the Odyssey regarding high effort at low speeds. Again, wondering if someone with a photographic memory might recall seeing this issue mentioned in some long forgotten TSB?

Appreciate any assistance!

Thank you.
