Saturday evening, my wife and I went out to pick-up a pizza, after my wife got back into the car and she said she could smell something burning. I did not pay any attention and told her I would check it out when we got home. 5 miles later at home as soon as we got home (dark outside and no garage :nothappy
I opened my door and a smell of burnt rubber of some nature. I walked up front of the ODY and it really smelled on the passenger side. Not that I was going to be able to see anything, until Sunday morning. I checked under the hood looking at top of engine, removed the cover, nothing evident there. Checked the radiator and heater core hoses finding nothing wrong. Could still smell slightly burnt rubber, so I looked at the serpentine belt, ac compressor-alternator-crankshaft pulley's and saw on the idler pulley that a rather odd pattern had taken paint off the pulley. I tried reaching down to the idler to feel the surface of it but my hands/arm are to big to reach in. The back side of the serpentine looked as though it had spun on a pulley and seeings how the idler pulley is the only thing that the serpentine belt back rubs against idler pulley (bearing being bad). I started the ODY up and watched the belt on all pulleys... everything looked normal with the exception of the idler pulley. It appeared to have a small lateral wobble inn and out every few seconds. Our ODY has less than 3500 miles and I will take it in first thing in Monday morning to Superior Honda where I bought it. My only fear is if it locks up and catches fire. I run the engine for 15 minutes, of course at idled while watching the belt but never saw the pulley lock-up. I have seen 2 different cars, one having the idler pulley and second was on a alternator bearing seizing up and burning the belt, catching fire to the complete engine compartment. I will take a picture or video of it Monday morning and post it when I get back from the Honda dealer. I will take nothing less from Honda to replace belt and idler pulley.
