What if I purchase from a dealer out of state? Could I buy it in Oregon, which has no sales tax, then register it here? Does anybody know the implications? I assume that I'd have to pay the tax when I register in California.[/b][/QUOTE]
Any Honda dealer/shop should service your car no matter where you bought it, but i know that CA DMV will find out and charge you sales tax, just like if i were to buy a car from Orange county and i live in LA, if the dealer doesn't charge me the LA tax rate, DMV will send me a bill. Orange county has lower taxes than LA.
PS..There is a way to get out of paying CA sales tax(most likely not worth it to most people), If you have a friend that lives in that out of state, then buy it out of state, you have to register it in that state and can not bring the car into CA for, i remember for 6months(thats where your friend comes into play, need to leave car with him), then you can bring the car home and register it in CA. A friend of mine did this for a RV and saved alot in Calif sales tax.
