I haven't yet tried this, but my salesman told me that I could have the van running & locked by turning off the engine & exiting the van, pressing the lock button on the FOB, then pressing & holding the remote start button. It will run for 10 minutes & remain locked.

 

Ditto about the remote start.

Yeah well I figured I could just turn the car off and then use the remote start as those are two completely separate functions, but it just seems silly to have to turn the car off, get out, pull my fob out, and then remote start the car, when I should just be able to get out and lock the damn doors

 

Humm. I thought I could lock the van with it running. I think I did it with the remote though. I am too impatient to wait for the auto doors to close, they seem very slow. So I walk away while they are closing and then I hit the lock button on the remote.

I tested this morning and as soon as you open the door, you are unable to lock them with the vehicle running. Obviously you can lock them while the fob is in the car and the doors are shut, but once that door opens it will no longer lock. Not even from the button on the fob.

As mentioned earlier, you have to turn the car off, and then turn it back on with the remote start in order for it to run while locked. This seems so dumb to me, and something that can be so easily fixed with software.

 

Yes you can lock the doors. Use the key and turn it and hold until all the doors lock. Then the doors will be locked. To unlock your must use the key again.

 

Hi... just to clarify the original posted question,

where is the fob when you are trying to lock the door while car is running?

 

It works while the fob is inside, but not while it is outside. Locking while inside is useless because you'd still be in the car.

 

As i mentioned before you can use the actual KEY to lock the car while the car is running. Honda is the only make that i know where the FOB is disabled while the car is running. I had the same problem in my 2016 Odyessey but i had a remote started (Compustar) that let me use a separate remote to lock/unlock the doors.

SO when the engine is running, use the Key and NOT THE FOB, and you can lock the door from the outside and it will remain locked. THen wehn you return you must use the KEY again as the FOB will not work on the outside of the car.
