Console to Replace Tray

I can't seem to find a thread on this so I'm posting this request here.

I'm fed up with not being able to use the cup holders in the tray, not having a place to put a small tissue box, not having a place for trash, and no coin holder. Does anyone know of a really nice center console that would fill my needs? Is it hard to remove the tray? Many thanks!

The console that has been used in previous generations was, I think, a workhorse. Available at K-mart. It has a plug for the accessory outlet and outlets of it's own on the back facing the rear and another inside for a cell. I remember it fitting tight (important) with the OEM tray in the down position. About $60. Try searching for keyword "workhorse"

really bad design by honda. There should be a front console just like the second row.
I actually thought about moving the console from the back to the front as the cup holders are much better than those in the front.

That looks very cool! It requires a minimum of 8 1/4 inches between the two front seat, which is EXACTLY the measurement when you fold down the Honda console. I'll seriously consider getting this, as I'm the one who posted the thread re: hating the cup holders!

Edit: Just noticed that the length is 27 1/2 inches, so it will stick out behind the 2 front seats and may block access to the lazy susan....

is this thing free standing or attached somehow? Just wondering if it will let loose in a panic stop or accident, or if being wedged in will keep it secure enough.

Also, any issues reaching the seat belt buckles?

One more: Do you have to run a cord to the power outlet in the dash to get juice to it (for the power ports, and how about the interior light)?

I use industrial strength velcro (lots of it) to make it stick to the carpet.

No interference with seatbelts whatsoever. As far as power, it comes with a power plug which very conveniently plugs into the power outlet up front. Once it's plugged in, all the console outlets become powered and shut on and off with the vehicle. As well, the interior compartment light comes on only when you lift open the top cover. Also has a sliding tray inside for pen/paper etc. not to mention two mini storage boxes at the front bottom and rear bottom that slide back into the console. Really Cool!!

In the mini-storage boxes, will a tissue box fit inside one of them? Or is there another good space for a tissue box? I would like to have a small trash receptacle as well but don't see a good solution for that. You would think that these auto manufacturers would see the need for at least the tissue holder!

You could put a half size tissue box in the space directly infront or behind the mini storage boxes however they would be in the way if you wanted access to the contents of the boxes. What we did was to remove the rear storage box and use that space for a full size tissue box. Works for us.

I found some tissues in Walmart that are in styro cups! They are .88 and I put them on one of the four cupholders between the drivers seats.
That sounds like a great idea! I'll see if I can find them at my local store. That will do until I can find a console that will hold a bigger box.

Not hard at all once you figure out where to start. I removed mine from my 05 EX and will link to some photos in the next few days.
Thank you so much. I'm looking forward to seeing what someone else has done. I haven't had much time to followup on consoles so I haven't purchased one yet.

I actually like the tray and its ability to be folded out of the way! :)

wut4,

I see the rear cup holders are fixed size. Are the front ones fixed or adjustable??

I removed the crappy OEM front console the day we picked it up (did the same on our 00 Ody). IMO the factory console makes a perfect delivery system for pouring drinks into the DVD player. I was thinking of fabricating a "L" bracket to attach to the bottom/side of the aftermarket console and using one or more of the three seat bolts that held the original to hold it firmly in place.

Thanks,

S

What aftermarket console did you buy? I'm still looking for a good one that will also hold a tissue box and a small trash receptacle. I have no need for a CD holder so I could probably use a section made for that for one or the other. There SHOULD be a console that holds, drinks, coins, tissue, and trash. You would think that the auto designers would at least put a built-in tissue holder somewhere.
