The manual requires 4.6 QTs at the oil change but that amount will put you a 1/4 inch over the max indicator also found in the manual. If you put a qt at a time and measure each qt you will find that at exactly the 4th qt it will reach the maximum required in the manual. Excess oil will damage the engine so what is the story ?

It sounds as if you are not getting a complete drain. I always do my oil changes with the van in a nose up attitude, thus as much oil as possible will come out. I have found that 4 1/2 quarts puts it right where it should be. One other thing is that you may be checking the oil level before running the engine and filling the filter. I also fill the filter as full as possible before screwing it on, so that there will be no stavation when the engine is started. The true test of the oil level would be with the van parked on a flat surface, after running and then sitting for several minutes.

I agree with Jerry. I recently did our first oil change and found that the 4.5-4.6 quarts put the level right to the full mark on the dipstick.
