I absolutely hate the cupholders in the Ody. The tray in the front seems like a nice idea at first, but nothing really fits in the holder. We've had a 32 oz. fountain drink tip over onto the floor while braking. We have a new system, the passenger gets to hold the drinks down.

I'm considering a center console from someone like Steel Horse to replace that flip down tray.

These inserts are only for the rear seats, and not the dash or console cupholders. You can buy them separately for '99-'00 vans. Handa-accessories.com sells them for $1.92 each and there's a picture there, too.

Those inserts are useless too. The kids end up throwing them around the cabin.

Do those only come standard on the '01 EX?

Jim, are you talking about the Honda inserts? I was planning on getting a couple of those for my '00EX, which didn't come with the inserts, after a large diet Coke toppled and spilled in the back. Normally don't use the holders in the back. What a lousy design!

The inserts help, but it doesn't fix the problem. The cupholders just aren't deep enough. The flip up tray between the front seats have the worst ones. If it's not a coffee cup, it doesn't fit.

Another stupid thing about that center tray is that the rubber flanges that are supposed to hold the cup in are not replaceable. The reason I know this is that one of our flanges split and the dealer said there was no part number for it - they had to replace the whole tray assembly! They did it under warranty fortunately, or rather it was a "good-will" repair after all the wait we had to go through to get the steering wheel replaced.

I'm almost positive I'll have my center tray for sale when I find a center console that fits and holds big ass drinks like an American vehicle should!

Whew ... sorry. I had to vent.

Last weekend I was tempted to cut holes in the bottom of the cupholder section of the tray.

Any info on center consoles would be appreciated.

The cupholder inserts do come on the LX also for 2001. So far, I have few complaints about the holders, as I usually only carry cans and child-size drinks in them. My complaint is the change holder in the pop-out cupholder tray. A nice spring-loaded one would have been preferable. Unless you fill it up full with coins, they're always jingling, and sometimes pop out.

I second your complaint on the coin holder. I keep the tray closed to eliminate the jingle but then I can't use the cup holders. The center flip tray is really only good for picnics in the van or straight freeway cruising. Which means the 2nd row passengers don't really have functional cup holders. Anyone know of cup holders which can hang off of the handle bar behind the front seats?

That's odd, I'm showing them available seperate from the tray, color matched. They may not have been available from Honda at the time.

If any of you are looking for a center console that could fit may I recommend WOLF AUTOMOTIVE PREMIUM-GRADE CONSOLES. They're available at JCWhitney:

http://www.jcwhitney.com/catsubpic.jhtml?CATID=33772

I bought mine a while ago for my Toyota Previa. When I transfered it to the Ody I was surprised to see how nicely it fit. No need for removing the center tray.

I use it for larger drinks and coffe mugs and I was even able to place my SONY CD changer in it. It's very convenient. I'm thinking about getting one, this time with 4 cup holders, for the second and third row. Here are some pictures of my console:

2002 middle row cup holders

I saw the cup holder inserts and, like Jim, have had my share of spills. The in-laws got the 2002 Ody and it also has cup holders in the sides of the middle row seats. (but they haven't fixed the coin tray problem yet.

We haven't driven our 2002 around very much yet, but my 4 yr old doesn't really have any cupholder options in the 2nd row. And that cupholder on the side of the 2nd row must've been designed by a sadist. It's spring-activated, and comes down like a damn rat trap on my knuckles. :p

I'm looking for a center console insert as well. Hopefully one that has a DC jack.
