Parts you need:
Original door release actuator
2006-2011 Door release actuator part 72623-SHJ-A21 (drivers side, different number for passenger side)
Tools:
Philips screwdriver, flathead, size 10 ratchet.

I wanted to change out the door release actuator for my 2012 EXL, I have already done the regrease method twice with partially fixed the problem (where you open the door release actuator and grease the gears with lithium grease), but I still got pops and door beeps once in a while (it is worse in winter).

I could not find the part in the Honda catalog. The release actuator is located behind part 13 the latch actuator (the latch actuator is NOT the part you want! I ordered it and was like wtf...)

I went into the dealership and they could not find the part in the catalog either, if someone knows the part number please share it here. I figured the only way to get the part was to order the whole assembly which was $200+ dollars, nah.

I asked the parts guy to bring out the release actuator for the 2006-2011 odyssey, and the parts looked pretty close, so I bought it hoping I could make it work.

Open the module by removing the black screw, then take a flathead screwdriver and pry open the case, working your way around the outside.
Everything is the same except the metal part the moved the door mechanism.
Too bad, the metal part is riveted to the case, so no easy way to swap it out. So I decided to use all the new parts in the old bottom housing.

Insert the motor from the 2006 unit
Align the part in red and put in the first gear.

Put the cover back on, put back screw and put it back in the van.

So far so good for me, if I have the popping come back I will post here.

That is some really good information. One correction to your post, the gen 3 models go from 2005-2010, not 2016-2011.

Regardless, this works for DIY'ers but no dealer or indy shop will do this.

One last side note, the popping is actually caused by a small pin and spring in the gear clutch assembly in the release actuator. You have to make sure you clean and grease that little pin.

Cool, I will fix the dates if the forum ever lets me edit it again.
Here is the clutch gear John is talking about for those interested, I am pretty sure I cleaned that clutch gear, but it was a long time ago so it is possible that I just lubed it without cleaning it, looking at the mechanism it is a spring around a pin, so it would probably be better to not have too much grease in that orifice.

I looked up the part number you listed (72623-SHJ-A21) shows as the passenger side on OEM parts site, the driver side shows as p/n 72663-SHJ-A21.
I have this same problem on the driver side of my 2011 EX-L so I just wanted to double check part numbers before I order.
Thanks

You might put this in the 2005-2010 section.
This fix is for the 2011-2017 Odyssey, using parts from the 2005-2010. It belongs here.

I think I cleaned the clutch and just used some WD-40 brand spray lithium grease on both of mine and haven't had a problem since.

Part numbers may vary

For anyone else searching for "Door pop" issues who finds this thread, just realize that all latch actuators are not the same. I just replaced my 2011 Odyssey Touring actuator on the driver side, and it doesn't look like any of the pictures above. First, the housing is white, not black. Second, there are 2 electrical connections instead of 1. I'm not sure if the variation comes from the Touring level, but make sure you do your homework there.

My door after removing the door panel is shown below, with the latch actuator prominently in front.

Part numbers:
Part No.: 72663-TK8-A01
Actuator Assy., L. Slide Door Latch

Part No.: 72623-TK8-A01
Actuator Assy., R. Slide Door Latch

Also, my vehicle didn't have all the plastic sheeting adhered to the door to deal with that I saw in videos from the previous generation. This fix is really very easy and less than $30 per door to replace the actuator. Sounds so much better now and hopefully takes another 7 years to redevelop!

The white actuator controls the lock, if the door does not unlock fully it can also cause the door to not open. That is good it fixed the problem for you, if it comes back then you can try changing the release actuator that I posted above.

So there are two actuators in the door, the white one you can see in the picture, and a black one that is directly behind it under the metal panel, either can cause the door to not open properly.

One is a lock actuator and the other is a release actuator. Totally different functions. Obviously, if the door doesn't unlock the door isn't going to open. When the release actuators start to go bad you get a popping noise while the door is moving...obviously not a lock actuator issue.

Follow these instructions to remove the door panel. It is for the older Odyssey, but is close enough.

After lifting the door off, there is a clip that you have to reach down and undo.

Take off 4 screws. Here you can see the white lock actuator, you can see the arm going directly to the lock. It is not connected to the handle at all.

Remove 3 silver screws and grey clip. The black unit here is the "release actuator" with unknown Honda part number.

Follow instructions in post 1.

Put it all back together, and done! Will take a couple hours the first time, about 30 minutes if you know what you are doing.

I agree, my post 1 addresses the release actuator problem.

Sraykens post number 10, has the part number for the lock actuator, which I agree is not the same.

I wish I could update my original post so I could show both parts :(

I'd really appreciate your time and efforts to write the post. it seems that there are some technical issue on the post that I can't even view the attachments.
Is there any way to get those images?
It works on a computer browser. I think the mods have to approve pictures or something.

Here are the photos until the mods approve pictures
