Driver’s Seat Heater Shuts Off After Turning On/Seat Heater problem

Yesterday morning I tried to turn on my seat heater and the light came on for a split second then went out. Same thing when I tried to push it twice for low heat.
Honda said it wasn't getting power to the switch and wants to charge $700 to replace the switch.
Im very angry as I am just 10,000 miles out fo warranty, thought I had an extended warranty and wasn't warned that I didn't have one when I was on for my 30,000 major service.
Passenger side is working fine, only driver side affected.

Can anyone help?
Anyone recommend a good extended warranty program I can purchase>

Thanks

we're having the same issue with our 2011, the driver's side seat warmer stays on for about 10 seconds then shuts off. Van has about 57k miles but I bought a 7 year / 100k mile warranty (Hondacare) with it, so i'm covered, I just need to get it to the dealer.

Our 2012 TE's driver's seat heater started acting up approximately 2 months ago per my wife, but she forgot to mention it to me until 2 weeks ago. Sure enough no matter which setting I chose the indicator light would extinguish after 2 seconds no matter what the ambient temp. I took it in to the dealer and they diagnosed it as a short in the heater element. They had to order the heating element and I have to bring the van back in. Thankfully it's covered under the Hondacare extended warranty.

Hello, new to the site. I've a owned a 02 TL-s, which is basically a honda. That car also had heating issues. The seat warmer is just high resistance wire that gets hot when current is run through them. On the TL's, the wires that connect the back and bottom sections wear away with use. The fix is to hard wire the broken section (usually with copper metal foil, not solder). The trick on that car was unplugging the connectors attach to the seat and removing the outer leather cover. Once the cover is removed, the heater elements and broken sections are easily seen and fix. Hope this helps.

Chalk up another failed seat heater. I have a 2011 EX-L and bought the van new. I just noticed this happening this past week after trying to use it. It seems like only my driver's side has failed. I'll try the dealer and see if I can get a good will repair, as my van is far out of warranty but only has 32K miles on it.

I just purchased a used 2011 Touring elite 85000 miles. Previous owner stated that they did not know the seat heater did not work. Ordered both driver elements and printed out the TSB. Installed the Driver seat back element last night. I checked the element prior to removing and it showed it had continuity but I went ahead and replaced it. No visual signs of a fault. Took about 2 hours start to finish. I was a dealership wrench for a couple of years. I had to completely remove the leather seat cover to get the old part off the foam. I put it all back together and tested the heater. Turned it on high and it worked for about 3-5 minutes and shut off. Prior to replacement with would only stay on for 3-5 seconds. Now when it shuts off it turns off the passenger seat also. I did order the bottom element also for the drivers seat and will replace it tonight or tomorrow when I get time.

It is easier to completely remove the seat from the vehicle as it makes it a lot easier to remove the cover. I started to do it in the vehicle but decided 4 bolts and two plugs later the seat was outside and much easier to work on.

I used two pair of needle nose pliers to remove the hog rings. They connect the cover on the front of the seat to the foam pad. I took 16 of those off. Took about 45 minutes to get those off. I did not replace them. I used 12 inch long zip ties. A lot easier to install and if I have to go back in a lot easier to cut with a pair of cutters and replace. Can't feel the zip ties through the seat cover so I think they will work fine.

Hopefully the bottom element will cure the problem. Passenger seat works fine by itself. I had noticed in prior post that shop had replaced upper and lower and I ordered both to save shipping. Got my parts thru Hondapartsnow.com.

I will post when complete as to status of operation.

Replaced it following the TSB. Very frustrating experience, took much longer than expect. Do take detailed pictures of every step, I didn't and ended up learning the hard way. And those clips are super frustrating to take off and put back on. If you can get the dealer to take care of it for $100 like some are reporting I would advise to go that direction. At least from my experience.

Ya know...I thought there was a TSB on this but I didn't go over and look. I do recall that now. Thanks for that!

It really doesn't take a TSB, though, to quickly find a bad seat heater. A simple ohm check of each heater at the connector will tell the story. The TSB is for the seat back but it could just as easily be the seat bottom, too.

I'll bring TSB to dealer and see what kind of deal I can negotiate as this problem happened to me shortly after I bought the car
