Hi all, I'm working at getting my van back together after it popped the lower driver's side balljoint on the highway. One of the things that happened in this incident was that the wheel turned out at almost 90 degrees and was dragged rearward in the wheel opening. At some point in its travel, the drivers side outer axle became detached from the intermediate shaft and from looking at things post-mortem it looks to me like the axle pretty much just slips over the intermediate shaft and is covered by a boot. Have I got that right or would there have been a fastener of some kind that may be lost or damaged?

Thanks,

Greg

There should be a fastener that holds the boot on and keeps the grease in.
