DVD-R burned @ 8X

Has anybody burned an 8X -R at the rate of 8X and have it played in the RES?

I've got 2 in home DVD players that can only play 8X discs burned @ 4X rate. It gets pixellated or disc error @ 8X discs burned at 8X. These same discs can't be read in my 2004 RES but works on my other vehicle's Icon DVD. I'm having a hard time finding Maxell 4X discs.

Thanks,

I just purchased an 8x burner, but I have so many 4x discs it might be years before I can actually use it at that speed!

Whether the DVD works or not could have more to do with the manufacturer of the DVD you buy and the quality of the burner you are using. I suggest you buy DVD's in small quantity until you find which ones work which don't. Check your burner documentation and web site for proven disks in their burner. If you get a program to identify the manufacturer you will find the retailer will be suplying disks from different companies under their label.

I am buying great quality DVDs, Maxells MIJ. The problem is the DVD player. Players manufactured before April 2002 were made to play only 4X speed. Sometimes having the correct burning software can bypass this. I must run DVDecrypter to make backups in order for a DVD-R to be played in the 2004 Ody but I don't need to use DVDecrypter if I play DVD-R on my other vehicle or home DVD players regardless of my disc speed.

I am using the same DVD burner.

I've had success with both DVD -R's and +R's in our 2004 Ody.

I, too, have the NEC 3520A. A good burner. I found some firmware on the Net that enabled some features including being able to set the booktype to DVD -ROM. It's my understanding that that setting in particular is important for compatibility with a variety of DVD players. I burn at 2.4X to be safe.

Scroll down this forum a few links to see the post I made a couple weeks ago of what works for me. In that post, Egghead should be replaced by NewEgg (I think Egghead was the original name).
