We have discovered on our road trips from Missouri to Texas, that the cheapest way for our family to eat (5 of us) is to order 4 kid's pizza meals at Schlotzsky's Deli(lots of them in Texas - Houston and Dallas area). They are 2.99, include a drink and a cookie, and you can get cheese or pepperoni. So for 12 bucks, we get a nice meal (we can't stand McD's, though the kids love happy meals). Four pizzas are plenty - although the kids are young (7,4, 1 1/2), they seem to be able to eat as much as we do. If we aren't too hungry, we can get by on 3. We find that with small children, it doesn't matter where you stop to eat, it ends up taking an hour, so time saving going to a "faster" food place doesn't seem to help if you are in a hurry.
