Hello. My Check Engine Light has been on and off for a few months. It was initially P145C & P0497 and after Googling around, a few other posts on here said it could be the Purge Solenoid. Not having the proper equipment to trouble shoot, I went ahead and ordered an OEM Purge Solenoid off of Ebay. I replaced it and the light did not go away. Now, in addition to the codes listed above P0443 is listed. Some other solutions I have seen on the web have been replacing the Gas cap, checking the Purge Solenoid power connection/hoses, and doing a bunch of other things I am not entire sure of. Some other symptoms the car is experiencing, which may or may not be connected, are infrequent difficulty starting (gives a few extra giggidies before turning over), and a slight gas smell from the exhaust. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

This is a problem, esp if the part was non oem from an unknown / untrusted seller.

any purge solenoid issues usually require a smoke test, you can also test the solenoid with a bidirectional scanner and listen to hear if its clicking opened and closed.

It's not always a 'this part fixes this problem'. That's why you have to diagnose and test what's wrong. I confirmed that my evap solenoid no longer worked. Jumpered the contacts since I knew this was a 12v relay and it did not click/function. Did the same on my o'really replacement and it clicked/worked (at least for now). One code cleared but I still have to dig in and figure out what else is wrong- when I have the time!
