Considering a 2011 EX 54K miles with a Braun fold out ramp. Just had a prepurchase inspection at a local dealer, looks good and they suggested the throaty exhaust sound was due to a straight line pipe required as a result of the Braun modification but that nothing was leaking. Sound familiar? Any concern regarding replacing the timing belt not due to miles but just the age? Anything I am missing? Thanks

Re: my timing belt question, dealer says nothing leaking, may be postponed for a year or two, sounds reasonable but consequences scare me. Also, what should I expect to pay for TB service, dealer vs. Other...thanks

may be postponed for a year or two
It's 12 years old now; I wouldn't postpone it any longer.

Shop cost for a full TB service is in the $6-800 range. Dealer cost would be about double using OEM parts.

Have them do a complete coolant change too. (TB job requires only a partial change.) The factory fill needs changing after 10 years.

Throaty 'exhaust' sound? Check the air filter box to make sure its sealed. The intake will raise hell if its not fully closed. Otherwise I would not accept that they put in one straight exhaust pipe for a crooked one and it got louder - thats BS! It could get louder if they also removed a cat converter and didn't replace it but that's most likely not it. Look for leaking joints or rusted out replacement pipes.
