I know there are lots of Tire Threads but I wanted to ask a specific question for the EXL 05.

I drive the entire southeast, almost never any snow or ice. lots of rain, etc. I have 245,000 miles on my EXL love the van. Hate my current tires I have the Toyo Versado LX?

I have used the Yokohama Avid TRX prior to these and before those 2 sets of the stock Michelin tires

The reason I left the stock Michelin was trying to reduce road noise. I had posted 1 or 2 sets of tires asking about Hydro Edge tires as I had great luck with them on other cars but I wasn't sure how to put them on my van.

THe Toyo Versido LX is a UNSAFE tire. They break loose on acceleration from a stop light and aren't the best in the rain but the worst I can say is they at about 15,000 miles the ride gets very rough.

So I'm going back to Kaufman today I want something else can anyone provide some good advice.

Thanks for any and all advice in advance.

I want to deal with this right away.

I have the Toyo Versado too for about 40k miles. The tires have now gotten louder but the tread life is still very good.

I live in Bay Area, CA and have taken the car to the snow and have driven in the rain quite a bit. I've not had any traction issues especially in dry conditions. And I don't baby the car either.

Has someone rotated your tires? If so check to see if they are rotating in the right direction, if I remember correctly the Toyo are directional tires.

When you say rough, what exactly do you mean? Are the tires over inflated? Over inflated tires can contribute to a rougher ride quality and traction issues.

Goodyear comfortreads are very quiet and a great tires. Much quieter than stock, and long lasting.

Do you live in the Ody to put that many miles on it??

when was the last time you had any suspension work done?

I think you are blaming tires for worn out suspension issues.

What is known as excessive 'wheel hop' (tires breaking loose when you accelerate) is almost certainly a worn front suspension issue.

the only 2 people working on my van for a few years except 1 oil change

1. Primary work almost 100% of the time by The retired Honda Factory Tech, that taught all the dealers techs in the SE US who now has his own shop.

2. The local dealers sr tech who was trained by the guy above.

I took it to my primary tech, he checked everything out said that he found no issues that had to do with anything outside of teh tires or alignment, and I had that checked with the last rotation and the tires and all roatations have been done by kaufman.

The problem is struts and shocks don't have wear indicators or dip sticks to check status.

*IF* your struts have more than say 100k miles on them, they are shot and need to be replaced.

That is a generous estimate, most really wear out well before 100k miles.

I was trying to find the link on the monroe web site that said how to do the "bounce" test on the shocks so you get an idea, but my searching skills have failed me.

It basically goes like this, push down the front bumper as hard as you can (posibly sit on it) and if the car bounces more than twice when you let it go, your shocks/struts are done.

wow I have around 60k on my Toyo Versado LX and they still have quite some tread left. I haven't had any grip problems either.
And yes, the Toyo's are directional tires. Maybe your tire pressure is off?

Well I went to Kauffman yesterday. And at the end of the day when I went back we did a test drive.

Got back & mgr was saying it was the CV joints and he wanted to put it up on the lift and shake them around.

They were surprised that after 40,000 miles on the tires since nov. I only had 2/32 tread wear on the front and 3/32 on the rear.

Then they ran their hand over one of the tires and said a band was broken and told me how unusual that was.

They put a mismatched tire on it since by the time they put my car on the lift the other locations were closed and they didn't have the tire in stock.

I'm leaving for mobile al 4am Monday for 2 days then I'm going to be in Baton Rouge, Shreveport, New Orleans and then Panama
City Beach before coming back to north Atl.

So they say they will replace the tire then, Intold them I would want to replace 2 I.e. A set not one and they said that we would work something out.

If I want to buy new tires they offered me about $250. Credit for these ( due to mileage not tread wear)

As for the CV joints. I have been very aggressive on maintenance and always made sure they never waited till there was a problem.

However the mgr says that they will be loose after this much driving.

I told him the Sr tech at the Honda dealer said my van shows less signs of wear than a van with 40,000 miles on it.

The mgr wants to replace both cv's to ensure there are not other problems. I'm not sure I trust that.

As for pushing on the front end it bounces up and stops.

I guess I need to post a question about when do or should I consider replacing the van vs keep it running?
I have 4 payments left on it it's in outstanding condition. I have all maintenance records. Where is the right forum for those questions?

Also any further thoughts on the tires and cv axles?

Thanks everyone
