Dear all,

Please let me know if you have any suggestions about buying an extended
warranty for Honda Odyssey.

I just bough a 2000 Honda Odyssey LX with 38,000 miles on it from a GM
dealer.

When I bought the van, the dealer wanted me to spend $1,500 for a GM
warranty, i.e., 3 years/36,000 miles. I plainly refused. The dealer then
offered me the same term warranty but only for $1,100 from Wynn's Extended
Care warranty. I then bought the Wynn's Extended Care warranty.

Unfortunately, when I contacted the only Honda dealer/service station in my
town, the service station told me that it could not and would not honor any
third party warranties because it sells Honda extended warranty. The service
station says that I must pay any repair with my own money and then get a
reimbursement from the third party.

After researching the Internet, I found many places offer cheaper (although
not always better) warranties than the Wynn's Extended Care. I can get
anywhere from $1,000 to $1,600 for additional 7 years/100,000 miles
(odometer reading) extended warranty. Therefore, I have decided to cancel
the Wynn's Extended Care.

I drive only about 7,000 miles/year. I am thinking that it may be better for
me to buy a 7 year warranty rather than a 3 year warranty because during the
next 3 years, my odometer reading may be only 38,000 miles (original
mileage) + 3 x 7,000 miles = 38,000 + 21,000 = 59,000 miles. I do not think
that my Odyssey will break down with only 59,000 miles on it.

I also found a warranty coverage from Honda warranty
http://www.hondawarranty.com/cov.cfm
It seems to me that the Honda warranty only covers mechanical breakdown but
not wear and tear. For example, the Honda warranty covers timing belt only
if the belt fails. I am also not sure who run the Honda warranty website.

Should I buy an extended warranty? If yes, should I buy a Honda warranty or
a third party warranty? Where is the best place to buy a warranty?

Thanks for your info.

Joe,

Thanks for your info.

Please give me your fax # and email address.

Do you offer me a Honda Care warranty or a third-party warranty?

A Honda dealer just offered me a warranty from CNA. I am not sure why.

Does your warranty cover the following:

- wear and tear
- seal and gaskets
- road side for life of contract
- overheating
- US and Canada
- immediate payment for repairs using a company's credit card, i.e., no
waiting to be reimbursed
- insured contract
- per visit deductible (not per repair)
- car rental replacement
- trip interruption money
- transferable
- separate administrator

Thanks for your info.

I'm not an expert on this one, but I would caution you to wait a day or two on this one until you get more responses to this thread. Although I have heard that the Honda Warrantee is a good package and will likely meet your needs, they are offered at great differences in cost based upon the "seller". At the very least do a search on this forum for extended warrantees and COMPARISON SHOP as dealers sell them at dramatically different prices!

I own a 2000 EX with 18,000 and have been researching the Honda Care Plan prices. The cheapest I've found are from Terry, her phone number is 800-264-3275. If you hunt around the forums, you can find her e-mail address as well. I think she charges $865 for the 7/100,000. Thats about the best you are going to find. The best my local Honda dealer could do was $1200.

I belive Ryan6731 means Tracy not Terry. The phone number is correct however. I spoke to her yesterday and she gives everyone the same pricing as far as I know. I personally have zero trust for anyone in car dealership business so I suggest you shop around Ahmad. When I called my dealership back about adding on the 7/100 warranty. He quoted me $1600!!! I flatly said you guys are overcharging and I will deal buy this through another dealership. Tracy quoted me $875. I have only been reading these boards for the past couple of days but it seems Tracy has earned an honorable reputation. These posts by other finance managers that say they can help you out but don't post a price seem shady to me. Carpe diem.

I purchased my HondaCare Extended Warranty from Tracy, as well. I have a 2001 LX and purchased the 7/100,000/0 deductible policy.

Sine I had owned my LX for over 12 months, there was a $40 surcharge. I paid $915.

Good luck!

For you guys who have purchased the extended HondaCare warranty, is it transferable to a new owner if you ever part with your Ody?

Yes, for a small fee.

I can't remember exactly how much it is...
~$50 or so?

Is the Honda IVES covered under the Honda Care Warranty? Was installed by dealer prior to purchase.

THe deductible is $50 or you can pay a $100 more and get a $0 deductible. I think the difference between these is that warranty gold pays for wear ande tear breakdowns and Honda care doesn't. They say they have been in business since 1984. Check out their website www.warrantygold.com it has all these answers. I just don't know if it is as easy to get repairs as they imply. By the way, I was quoted $895.00 by my auto dealer for the honda warranty.
