Factory amp location / No audio connection

I have spent most of the morning reading and searching here. Have a '19 Elite and have gotten the no audio connection issue come up maybe 5-10 times since we have owned the van, purchased new in 2018. Most recently was over the weekend. Similar to what some others have described, on a road trip, warm outside (between Houston and Dallas), on the highway, hit some stop and go traffic. When I stopped, engine shut off and kicked back on a minute later when I left off the brake and got the no audio error. Have a small USB keyboard that we tried rebooting the system a couple times to no avail. At the next stop, I shut it off, opened door, closed and restarted. Still nothing. The RES with headphones was working fine the whole time. I had forgotten how to get into diagnostic mode to see what was going on at the time. When we got home, waited 5 mins, turned on the van and all worked as normal. It hasn't happened since then. It happened some last summer, always really hot out and IIRC it was mostly after an idle stop. I don't have crackling/popping or any of the symptoms of the MOST connector. Truthfully (thankfully), this no audio thing is the only real issue we have seen with our van.

I have seen the post with the amp being red in diagnostic screen for folks. My thought is that the amp is overheating and when idle stop or any start action occurs, the amp has already let the head unit know it is too hot, and that state change (starting engine) causes the infotainment to shut down the amp to prevent damage. This makes sense as to why a software fix has not been implemented in the last 3 years because it is a hardware issue. They could change the threshold, but if it is overheating, it is overheating and they don't want it to burn itself up.

I have read a couple things about amp locations which is why I am posting. I want to know where the elite amp is located. Is it really behind a panel in the back of the van or is it up under the dash somewhere? Are there actually two of them or is it just the one?

My plan is to wire up a fan mounted above the amp that will blow air over it to hopefully aid in cooling it to see if my hypothesis is true. In the meantime, if it happens again, I will be sure to go into diagnostics to see what is happening.

Hot Weather and Overheated amp could be a contributing factor. I have seen some comments where owners have mentioned they went outside to get gas and when they got back in the car there was that no audio connection issue. I feel like some electrical connection such as (lock/unlock doors) interferes with one another specially audio/infotainment system.

Dropped the van off at the dealer this morning as we have been having issues with the sliding doors not closing (TSB about this). Told them about that and the no audio connection and they are fixing all of it with no charge to me (have Hondacare). They said the amp is on backorder, but will be in, in a couple of weeks.

Ironically enough, this appt was scheduled for today and yesterday afternoon was when the battery decided to take a dump on me. So I was swapping that out last night about 8pm. I called dealer first and they wanted $276 plus $56 to install it. Ended up with an Everstart AGM with 4 year warranty for $187 out the door. 15 mins later back on the road.

I think it is either a voltage problem or noise on the power (highest probability). I have a 2018 exhibiting the same problem and think the amp protector “crowbars” making the diagnostic tool color it red. Has anyone tried a power line noise filter going to the amp?

Took the van in over this past weekend and had the amplifier swapped per the TSB under Honda Care. Unfortunately, have no idea if it did anything to fix it until next spring or summer, but glad it hopefully is now taken care of. If I was thinking, I would have pulled up the screen and gotten the amp info beforehand and then I could compare to make sure the amp was in fact different. No reason to believe it is not, but would be nice for peace of mind.

Well, how did it do this summer? The suspense is killing me!

Update on my No Audio problem. This past summer I have had the same problem a few times on 3+ hour drives. I brought up the diagnostic screens and they were identical to the errors and amplifier "NOK" screens I saw in 2021 and that were shown at the start of this thread. I mentioned this to the dealer when I took the car in yesterday for the fuel pump motor recall. They said the problem was the amplifier and it would cost a little over $800 to replace. I sent them my photos from 2021 and asked why they did not have a tech properly diagnose this still identical problem while under warranty? Upon getting my photo email they immediately requested warranty relief from Honda USA regional, apologized for the misstep, and were pretty sure that with my documentation it would be fixed at no cost with help from Honda. Unfortunately, the amplifiers are on backorder! The new facra connectors on the MOST bus definitely helped but did not cure the problem.
