Fenderwell Trim - Useful or Not?

Any opinions would be appreciated. This summer I scraped my front driverside fenderwell against a stupid post. I don't know if the fenderwell trim would have helped or not. Thanks.

This was the first mod I installed. I think they look good and have protected my fenders against minor dings and scratches.
