We'll my '06 EXL-RES has been averaging less than 20MPG around town, and I was starting to believe that EPA estimates aren't relevent real world numbers. I just got back from a roadtrip from New York to Florida and I'm pretty impressed with the mileage. If you look at the high/low numbers you'll see that they're very close to the EPA numbers.

Here's the information.

5 people and luggage (about 875lbs). No roof carrier this trip. I made an effort to set the cruise control to 80MPH for the majority of the trip, but I did cruise faster at certain times 85-95MPH. I used only regular gas from national retailers.

Total Miles driven 2558
Total fuel used 101.5 gals (approx - fuel remaining in tank)
Total fuel costs $232.35 (approx - fuel remaining in tank)
Average MPG 25.2 MPG
Highest tank 502 miles with 18.0 gals. 27.8 MPG
Lowest tank 367 miles with 17.8 gals. 20.62 MPG

So now I'm a believer in those EPA ratings.

Congratulations on the good mileage!! I hope you keep enjoying those good numbers!

I get the EPA number on the highway in my EX (no VCM), but lower than EPA in the city. (My city driving is normally 3 miles or less each way, so I don't expect much.) This is the same way it was with my Honda CRV. Everyone just needs to look at their vehicle as a whole and not just the MPG.
