Hello all,

I just purchased a used 2004 Ody EXL with 130,000 miles on it. I wouldn't have normally bought a vehicle with such high mileage if it were not a Honda, and since a good friend of mine works as a salesperson at the Honda dealership, I took the gamble. I checked it over and took it for a weekend first, and everything seemed fine.

I bought it two weeks ago, and have put about 4000 miles on it already. The first problem I noticed was the light on the clock was out, and thanks to the great advice on this site, that was easy to fix. I next tackled the cabin air filter, since I could see the plastic brace was still there, I assumed the filter had never been changed. I didn't have a replacement, but figured no filter was better than breathing a 130,000 miles worth of crud. Took all of about ten minutes to remove filter and put everything back together.

Next on the agenda is a big overhaul. The dealer had no records of the timing belt being changed, so I plan on doing that next weekend. At the same time I'm going to flush the tranny, coolant, change plugs and oil, check valve lash and replace belts, and water pump.

I was just wondering if there was anything else someone could recommend I check or replace while I'm at it, any other major or minor things to look for.

The only other issues right now are a faint gas smell (started about a week ago), I dropped the tank, and found a little leak around the valve (not sure what it is) at the right front corner on the top of the tank (white with three rigid tubes connected to it). Looks like the glue on the seam of this valve was wearing out, so I epoxied it. This seems to have helped, but not completely eliminated the problem. Going to replace the gas cap to make sure it's not the seal there. The last problem I've noticed was the rear vent windows don't work all the time. Sometimes they work fine, other times one will and the other won't, and sometimes neither works. Guess I'll try the control switch suggestion.

Otherwise, I figure I can get another 100,000 out of it, and I only paid $8000, so why not. It's a great vehicle, so far. I'm only getting about 21-22 mpg with mixed driving, but hoping the plugs, etc. will help that a little (and I might try the TC-W3 trick). I drive a ton of miles, so even a 1-2 mpg increase for me is worth $15-$30 a month with today's gas prices.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance.
