Fog Light hole and air intake?

2093 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ckonarske
I just washed our new 2001 Ody today for the first time and noticed that the fog light hole on the drivers side is "open" with just the horizontal black grill in the center. On the passenger side, there is a black plastic piece above and below the horizontal grill plastic. This has to be cut out to install the fog lights (which I am considering doing).

Has anyone noticed this missing plastic on their Ody? I know that the air intake is on the drivers side down low, could this be the air intake hole? Some of the after market products use this location to suck in colder more dense air for more power.

I ordered the Helm manual, but it hasn't arrived yet, so I'm just curious to see if anyone else has noticed this or whether the plastic back has popped off our our 1 week old car.

PS Any comments on how good the Honda factory fog lights are in brightness? Are they worth the $1100 that some dealers are quoting for installing them? I saw that these can be purchased from HandA-accessories for just over $300. Has anyone installed them? How many hours will it take to remove the bumper and get all the wiring done?

Don't worry, nothing has fallen off, that's just how the bumper is molded. Don't know why, maybe to direct airflow.

The lights work very well are easily worth $300, but whoever quoted you $1100 is really trying to rip you off.

Yes, you can install them yourself, a number of the people here have done it. It took me about four hours or so and it's well worth it.

Thanks Chuck for the info. I'll bet the most folks won't notice those holes in the drivers fog light opening because it looks black like the passenger side from a couple of feet away.

Its seems that most dealers in So. Calif are charging over $1000 for the fog light option. I guess that's just the Calif premium since the cars are in such demand here. The wait is 1 - 2 months and $1500 - 2000 over MSRP.

Your fog light photos are very nice. Glad it only took 4 hours to install. That might give me some leverage in locating an installer or I might just do it myself.

Yes,

The fog lights are fairly easy to install, but does require some patience (esp. when cutting the fog light hole and removing the two steering column plastic covers). But I used Chuck's pictures as reference and didn't have a problem (thanks Chuck). The instructions do have a typo, Harness B is Harness A and vice versa, not too hard to miss.
As for why the passenger side fog light hole is totally covered, you will notice that the windshield fluid tank is right behind it, so until you install the lights, it'll be open to road debris. Good luck on your installation.

Are you trying to start an on-line album? The one I use is called FotoAlbum. It's free and can be downloaded from www.fototime.com . You then upload them to FotoTime. Very easy and very quick once you learn the program. Also, the best support of any program I've used.

If I've misunderstood your question, please clarify and I'll try to help.
