Fog Light installation location symmetry

I have my shop manuals on order and have looked at the install instructions for the fog lights at "HandA" and I have a concern.

The instructions show the removal of the horizontal louver from the left side and then repeat for the right side. My fog light locations are not symmetrical. The right side has a solid plastic piece across the back attached to the louver, blocking air flow through the hole. I assume this also has to be removed by hacksaw, but the instructions don't mention it.

Am I correct in this assumption? The rest of the instructions seemed clear to me. Any hints or tips would also be appreciated.

I also discovered and confirmed that the fog light holes are not the same. see my post on "Fog light hole or air intake?", 4/17/01.

The drivers side has a louver which I speculate might be for the air intake. The passengers side has the windshield washer fluid behind the fog light plastic cover. So you have to modify both sides differently for the fog lights. I haven't done the install myself yet, so you should search the boards for more tips on how to cut out the holes.

Thanks for the info. I think they block the hole to possibly prevent freezing of the washer fluid in extreme cold because of direct air flow across it.

Thanks again.

Make sure that when you get all the hardware, to get a good feeling of how/where the fog light brackets will mount (this should take only a minute or two). The last thing you want to do is cut out the mounting tabs. (I installed my pair about a month ago, no problems.)
