Sometimes ya gotta out fox them for their own good, Odyfox! Try tying something you really don't want in with the fog lights, I used Alloy Wheels which are even more expensive. Yeah, I know that's tantamont to blasphemy for some, but I like the wheel covers on the LX, plus they match the SS, and I can't see spending that much money on something that doesn't improve or add function and I can't see them when I'm driving anyway.
I've had no problems with the wife on any options except the fog lights, which she claimed was just an overpriced silly toy for me and besides, "there isn't any fog in the desert". So, I uped the ante with the wheels (which I knew she thought like I did on those). Well, that really worried her, and she countered with a new bigger freezer and new curtains were more important than "toy wheels & fog lights!". I of course pointed out we already had two freezers counting the one in the fridge but we had no fog lights or Alloys. Anyway, she said if I gave up the wheels and she could have a new freezer, she'd let me have the fogs. So I either foxed her on the fogs, or was foxed by her on a freezer... LOL, I'm still not quite sure which.
Now here's the kicker, she _L_O_V_E_S_ the fog lights! It's her favorie mod, she tells everyone how she was against them and that they were my idea but how glad she is that I went ahead and got them. The fogs really do significantly improve visability, especially when you get out of the city. In fact we were just talking about how we see a larger percentage of drivers that have fog lights, out here in the "fogless" desert than we did in the cities on our vacation last month. They don't improve visability that much in lit up main streets in the city, but in darker residentual areas and in the mountains, desert, country, and along remote coastlines... it's a world of difference. It doesn't project as far as the high beams, but they project wider, lighting up the shoulders & side of the road fantastic, plus they fill in the low beams great. It's like going from a particle beam to a wave form. You can see the low beam "beams" of light go out interspersed with darkness, but when you kick on the Ody fogs... the darkness interspersed in the low beams is completely washed out with the wave of light from the fogs. The fogs will literally light up both shoulders on a two lane road and everything in between, to about the distance of your low beams. They also enable you to better tolerate an oncomming moron who refuses to dim their high beams. They greatly improve visibility, which improves safety.
They're great in the boonies for the passenger too, because you can see the ani-mules & what not off the side of the road instead of just darkness.
I wanted them because neither of us see as good as we use to in the dark, especially my wife. But I really didn't think they would be as good as they turned out to be, and as much as I enjoy them... my wife (who was originally against them, remember) loves them even more! Infact, when we're driving across the desert on high beams in no traffic, she still wants me to go to low beams, which kicks on the fogs, so she see off the side of the road. You can drive faster on high beams though, I may have to do the mod that enables the fogs on high beams too, to faciltate her ani-mule spotting.
There is no doubt in my mind, your wife will really enjoy the fogs once she has them, Odyfox. The only possible way I can imagine that she wouldn't is if your night driving is only on highly lit city streets. And if all else fails, tell her you want that diamond encrusted hood ornament with the LED's in the eyes too,(wink).
Best Regards,
Skybolt
