Well, now this ridiculous cold snap is finally broken and I'm hoping to not need it for the rest of the winter, I had a chance to install the Fortin EVO-ONE remote starter today. Here are some observations and tips for anyone else thinking about getting one:
1) It works with the factory keyfob. Hit lock 3 times and the car starts. I believe you can add an RF kit if you want a second fob with extended range.
2) When you open the door, the engine shuts off. Customer services claims this is the behavior for all Hondas despite there being an option to enable/disable this behavior in the setup software.
3) Get the T-harness. It makes life way easier. You will need to make a few modifications/splices on the harness before you put in the car, but then when you get to the installation, only two connectors plug into the car. You need to splice 2 wires for parking lights and horn if you so desire. Allegedly you can also hit lock 3x to stop the engine as well, but it seems none of the functions on my OEM fob are working after remote-start.
4) Customer support claims the OEM fob should still work after remote-starting, but that is not my experience. If anyone else has managed to get this to work, let me know. There is a white wire that needs to be removed from the 6-pin plug (or cut) and pin #34 on the end of the t-harness needs to get cut and spliced to another connector on the harness in order for it to work. I've checked and double checked both of these.
5) The module that the harness plugs into is up above the gas pedal. I found it easiest to just remove the bracket holding the module on to access the connectors. You will need a 10mm socket with an extension and wobble-joint will help.
6) It appears as though you need to remove the steering wheel to remove the steering column cover to get to the parking light and horn wires. I didn't feel like getting into that today. Please correct me if someone knows otherwise. Looks like TORX-head screws hold the steering wheel on.
7) You DO need to buy the FlashLink 2 in order to program the unit for the specific car you are installing it in. In all likelihood, you will use it to get it set up and the probably never need it again.
8) Total cost was just shy of $200. $110 for the EVO-ONE, $50 for the FlashLink 2 and $35 for the harness.
