Hey guys, I have a 02 Odyssey and the front and rear tires are wearing on the outsides,
The guy at Discount tires told me I needed front end and rear end work.
I'm thinking there's something like "A" arm bushings front and rear ?
What would need replaced in this case ? and how involved is it ?
Thanks ..

I don't know about getting those parts replaced but here's a simple thing you should check - what's your tire pressure set at? Does the vehicle vibrate or pull at certain speeds or under braking? If the answer is 'no' then that may not be the case. You may want to have the suspension checked at another place just to see. The rear suspension is pretty solid in any FWD vehicle and I would be very surprised if it needed anything. Fronts I can see balljoints or tierods but you'd know if that were the case (vibration, wandering, pulling etc).

Good luck

More info needed to really assess. How often do you rotate? Does the van get mostly local driving with lots of turns? How does this compare to other cars in the stable? Does the other car(s) get more highway miles than the van?

Agree with Our Odyssey on the rear suspension. Very unusual for wear issues of this nature to be caused by the rear. If you were getting cupping or scalloping then yes, as that is a sign of weak rear shocks.

Outside tire wear is sometimes caused by too much camber (alignment in the vertical plane). However, excessive positive camber in the rear of the Ody is almost unheard of.

Another possible cause is excessive speed on highway ramps, especially if the tire pressure is low or if the vehicle is heavily loaded. Just one hard ramp can shave off 1,000 miles of normal tire wear.

If you don't think driving style is the cause, have the alignment checked. The Ody needs a 4-wheel alignment (independent rear suspension), so choose a shop that can handle it. The alignment check will also include checking of the suspension components. Suspension components are expensive so you have to target them, rather than guessing, if any need replacing.

Thanks for the replies guys.
This is my wife's van, and it sees a mix of highway and street driving.
I do a regular rotation and pressure checks at Discount tire.
I guess the next step is to have the alignment checked and go from there.
The van has 165.000 on it.

Front camber is adjustable if you replace a bolt with a special one.

Rear toe is also adjustable.

Edit: Rear camber is adjustable if you replace the stock upper control arms with aftermarket, adjustable ones. (Usually used with lowered springs; should not be needed if the stock springs and other components are in good condition.)
