Another thread regarding front end noise.

We have a 2019 Odyssey EX.

About 1.5 months ago I had new tires put on my van and a wheel alignment. The week after I started a hear a very subtle (barely audible) noise, sounding like 2 plastic trays hitting each other or a loose battery bouncing around in the tray. We live on a small hill with smooth asphalt and every time after starting up the van and going down the hill without applying any gas, I can hear the noise and feel something in my steering wheel. Driving on quiet side streets that are smooth as well, I hear the noise.

I checked the battery holder and it seemed tight. Brought the van in twice after getting my new tires/alignment and the dealer claims they can't hear the noise. Tried recording the noise with my iPhone today and could not hear the noise in the recording.

Found some threads about bad sub-frames but the symptoms don't seem to match up.

Help.. I'm thinking of bring the van to another dealer to see if they can find the problem....

I had a 2019 that made a low end noise that was heard going over minor bumps and heard going over uneven pavement. I could feel it in steering wheel. My local mechanic told me the front end is perfect, no issues. He suggested a strut issue or potentially a power steering issue. The dealer checked it as well and could not find anything wrong. I drove it anyway without issue.

I will tell you the rear shocks went at 35k miles. Very unusual! But then again, the autoparts I have been purchasing, OEM or aftermarket, are hit or miss. Some last, while other are garbage in 3 to 6 months. So....Honda is not impervious to this.

One of my rear shocks failed around 63K miles. Luckily I have Honda care so it was covered.

I just don't believe that there are no issues. I'm going to get my van onto my ramps and poke around. Like I said, I might go to another dealer to have it looked at.

Same goes for my 2020. I’ve been hearing and feeling this disturbance for almost three years. In this time, I’ve had different tire sets; so, I know it has nothing to do with tires or their potential imbalance or misalignment.
There is no way any dealer will admit to hearing or feeling this subtle shuddering.
Feels like a looming disaster. 🧐🤔😬

We had a 2006 Ody and our 2019 doesn't compare to the 2006, which in my opinion was far better.

Sorry to say but if a dealer can't find the cause of the noise and fix the issue, this might be my last Honda. The steering feel stinks and the transmission isn't the greatest either..

Update, sort of.

Noise has gotten worse, especially when at initial startup.

We live at the top of a hill. It seems that after a cold start, as we leave the house and start to go down our hill, I hear the knocking noise and feel it through the steering wheel. Our block is pretty smooth. After a bit of driving, the noise subsides but still there at times..

Really getting annoyed with this. Anyone have ideas?

A little more insight....my son pointed out to me that the knocking noise we heard and felt could have been related to transmission and possibly steering or CV joints. The reason could have been that van had the German AG transmission and it made a clunking sound going from reverse to drive or visa versa. It also didn't shift smoothly compared to the 2025 Odyssey I now have. The dealer knew this and indicated this was normal.

The 2025 I now have has been on numerous shakedown cruises. It doesn't exhibit any of the issues I experienced with the 2019. The 2019 when I purchased it, had about 14k miles and it made those noises.

How many kms/miles on the van?

Does it go away when the van warms up?

Only when you are moving? Is it tied to vehicle speed or engine speed?
The van had about 77K miles on it when I started to hear the noise, after I brought it in for new tires and an alignment. It only happens when I move. Very obvious most of the times after leaving it overnight.

It's not tied to engine speed of vehicle speed.

Another update.

Don't think I mentioned that the noise occurs mostly after the van hasn't been driven overnight..

So, brought the van to the dealer yesterday. Left it overnight, told them NOT to drive/move the van after parking it in the lot.

Went over to the dealer this morning and had the mechanic drive the van slowly with me in the van. Told him to not press on the accelator and allow the van to move on it's own momentum after he got it rolling, on a relatively smooth surface.

Hallelujah, he heard the noise and said it was a bad strut. Since I have Honda care, a Honda rep is coming over to look at the van. If all goes well, they'll cover the set (both fronts)..
