I have asked this question before, without response. Do your Odysseys make a "knocking" noise when traversing washboard type roads. Mine has quite a pronounced knock over such surfaces. It reminds me of a '49 Nash we had which had a loose idler arm bushing and knocked over bumps. I know some of you out there are NVH gurus and I would like your input on this.

Hi Jerry,

The worst surface I've crossed with my Ody has been intersections with multiple rail road tracks. The entire van was and remains tight and rattle/knock free. So far, it's been better in that regard than any other car I've owned and that's more than I expected.

My 2001 Ody left front suspension makes a tick sound (sounds like the word tick) when going over bumps especially at low speeds. It feels like the suspension is bottoming out and I can feel it through the steering wheel.
Does anyone else have this problem?...and what is the fix?

I took my 2001 Ody in for service at 5 months, 5400 miles, to fix this tick noise. Honda service drove the car with me and heard the noise. They replaced the front left strut and the W-S/ABS unit (whatever that is). This did not eliminate the tick sound.

Again, I took the van to Honda service at 6 months, 6400 miles. The service tech drove the car with me and heard the noise. This time they tightened lower control arm bolts, lubed front brakes, door tracks and rubbers. This did not eliminate the noise.

I paid a lot of money for this van and expect a quiet ride. It doesn't bother my wife (she listens to the radio and can't hear it), but it bothers me.

Honda service tells me there is no fix. No way!

Mine does the same

Jerry, Mine does the axact same noise. I have to find out what it is though. Someone said that there are bearings on top of the spring seat that get loose. Mine does it up to about 30 MPH but clears up. If you find out anything please let me know and I will do the same. :)

Check your sway bar bushings and the end links. Also check your lower ball joints. Both are common issues on the 6th gen Accord, I personally had that on mine. Loud clunk, took off the front sway bar completely and miraculously it's silent!

I have noticed the same knocking in my wife's Ody.
She, like all other women, is oblivious to that kind of stuff, but
it bugs me!
Anyhow, I had a similar noise on the back of my Camry winter beater and I solved the problem
by replacing the 2 swaybar rubber bushings. Problem solved for about 30 bucks and done in 10 minutes. I'm hoping it is the same story for the van.

The sway bar end links are a lot tougher and more expensive on the Ody! :(

My wife's Ody has the same exact issues too. Its so "clunky sounding" over bumpy surfaces that is almost feels loose.

I've used the search function over and over to look for answers but have not really found too much.

In addition to this noise it also has been making a "creaking" noise when turning the steering wheel left and then right in slow-speed tight turns (into a parking spot). I've had the car on jack stands and looked for loose items such as sway bar, struts, spindles, bearings, but have not really found anything.

Thanks,
CJB

I would suspect a bearing issue. Had a similar issue with our 2006. It also made a "droning" noise at highway speeds.

I just found this via "Search". I have the same rattling (I did the endlinks and replaced struts, which helped a bit but didn't solve it) and now I have a droning that gets louder with road speed.

I've seen one post saying they replaced a bearing and it didn't help.

Did you get bearings done? Did it solve the problem?

Thanks, Andy

Clunk in front end 2000lx

I too have a creaking noise when turning at very slow speeds ..like reversing out of a driveway...I have had a clunk for the longest while..I replaced sway bar bushings , end links, struts , tsb done for those strips on the upper strut mounts...calipers tightened up with shims..still I get a clunk...BUT..only over speed bumps and when moving off form a standstill..there is no rattling noise over rough roads. Another Ody owner I know has the same problem..I have not looked into the ball joints nor the steering rack bolts..If I hold the brakes while going over speed bumps I dont get the clunking noise !I dont let it bother me anymore.

I've got the creak, suspension clunk, and the steering wine! Close to 100,000 miles. Don't really want to spend money on something unless I know its going to fix it. Sounds like a lot of people are chasing down the problem with no results!

05 front suspension noise

I have a 05 ody with 137000 miles on it with the same front left clunk when going slow over bumps or up the lip on a driveway. Both sides make the same noise when each wheel hits a bump, the left side is the worst. The dealer checked it out and replaced the front drag link thinking it would take care of it but nooooo. The mechanic could not see anything else wrong. So it still drives me crazy.

had the same issue, clunking at low speeds coming into driveway (slight 'lip'). I replaced front struts and rear shocks last week, problem went away. I would probably conclude struts and/or bearings as the culprit.

I just took mine in to a service station that I trust. They could not find anything, but the rattling drives me crazy. As mentioned in my earlier post I've replaced the struts and strut tops, the sway bar endlinks, and a droning wheel bearing. The rattle is not effected by depressing the brakes so I've eliminated caliper guide pins as a cause (I think).

Not sure what my next move is.

Since the caliper pins are a cheap fix - try that. I have this rattle developing too and will replace them soon.

I have had this noise since new in 2001 (MY02). Complaint w/ Honda and they replaced shocks..springs...bushings...weld some crap and still didnt' fix nothing. That was like 3 times....then when I tried to do the 4th attempt, I was told (by several Honda dealership / service) that it's not an issue and hence refused to fix. I am guess when they pull up my VIN from the computer, there must be a note (that cannot show to customers?) from Honda HQ about the issue and demanded NOT TO FIX ANY MORE? The Way Honda is treating their customers last couple years IMO has gone downhill.
