Your fuel door issue may be related to the left passenger sliding door problem. If the left slider is not completely closed (or if the circuitry does not think it is completely closed), the fuel door will not disengage--this is to prevent the sliding door from contacting the open fuel door and gas pump handle.

Definitely take the van back to where you bought it and have them address the problem before your Wednesday's trip. The more that you try to fix it yourself, the less inclined that the other party will want to have any part in getting the fuel door to work (or have any legal responsibility to do so).
