Hello,
My 06 Odyssey Touring is in for a minor service today and has 69k miles on it.
The dealer recommended a fuel induction and throttle body service. Is this necessary and/or a good idea?

Thank You for reading this!

Also thank you for this wonderful site - I have found answers to my questions many times over the years (such as what to do about a cracked fog light, tires etc.)

A full throttle body cleaning is a good idea, although 69K seems a little early. Did the dealer have a particular reason for recommending this service?

Such a cleaning is usually done as a first step in case of engine starting or driveability issues. Over time, deposits build up in the air intake system, especially the throttle body area, that can cause all sorts of weird symptoms.

The engine oil must be changed after the cleaning. So if you get it done, wait until you need an oil change too.

In the interim, adding a fuel injector cleaner occasionally to your gas will keep those clean. Fuel injectors get dirty faster than throttle bodies.
