Perhaps a dumb question, but...

Why can't the odyssey accomodate a double-din head unit? It looks like it could. The new Accord EX has a single, double-din unit in it but most places (ie crutchfield) list the Accord EX as not being double din compatible. What about the Odyssey? Is it because there is no known kit, or am I missing something?

When you say you have to fabricate a "kit" do you mean a face plate filler, or a complete mounting kit (internal, ie does the unit screw into factory holes?). Pioneer lists Honda models as not requiring a kit for install (up to 99 models, they obviously have not updated), but the odyssey is not listed.

You don't need to buy any mounting kit, you'll reuse the brackets that are currently used to hold the headunit and pocket/cassette player.
There will be a 3/8" gap around the headunit once installed, that's why you need to use ABS plastic to cover the gap.
