this is my first message in the forum since June!!! Thats a freagin' 4 months of absence!

But anyway, I have a question that needed to be answered NOW (today is Sunday - dealers are closed) Yesterday I bought a bottle of ATF fluid (Auto Transmission Fluid) from the dealer. I woke up tonight, shocked to have realized the bottle was labeled "ATF-z1" BUT My owners mannual recommends "Premium Formula ATF". Now I am afraid to pour in the bottle I just purchased.

1) Are "ATF-z1" & "Premium Formula ATF" the same?

2) What should I do now? I cant go back to dealers coz they're closed on Sundays.
Also on Monday, will have to start the day early, thus inconvenient to stop by a dealer then.

My service manual (1999-2001) says to use Honda ATF-Z1, so you have the right one.

ATF-Z1 is specifically formulated for all Honda automatic transmissions. It is the only fluid Honda sells. You may use it without fear. Had you been unable to get the Honda brand, then you could have used a premium brand (e.g. Dexron III) as a temporary replacement.

Thanks my_2001ody & sinbad for your reassurance. But Sinbad, I think there is another kind of ATF that Honda sells - "Premium Formula" it is the one recommended by my '99 Owners Manual. Look HERE

I alos checked my HELM's service manual and was suprised to find "ATF-z1" recommended.

So has anyone used the "ATF-z1"? Any problem or noticable difference?

Hachiroku, thanks for the warm welcome, makes me feel right back at home.....ahhh comfy...Well, I was moving from Houston to Sacramento. Took me 4 months to really get every thing settled and setup the way I wanted. You BET I will be active in the forum once again.

I am surprised you "need" ATF. Since automatic transmissions do not "use" fluid, I wonder where yours went, if you need to add. Do you have a leak? If so, where?

I was installing an ATF-cooler and expecting to spill or leak some fluid. Thats why I needed the bottle. True enough, I did leak quite a few drops of the ATF-fluid.

I had a hard time installing the ATF-coller.>:

I know we had a pretty long discussion about it. Plus all my bumps.

Anyways, it's on the 11th of November,Sunday. Time is 1:30 PM.Location is Treasure Island which is off the Bay Bridge.
If you have'nt been to that area, Just take the I80 West all the way towards San Francisco. About halfway on the Bay Bridge you'll see the Treasure Island exit on your left.
We haven't finalized the exact location on the Island yet. Just keep checking the posts.

ATF-Z1 V.S. Premium Formula ATF

dealer told me the ATF-Z1 is the "new" one that is "better" than Premium Formula.

So there it goes.
