Although I agree with new car designs or improving safety etc I have found that most Japanese car manufactures change or redesign alot more frequently than say Europeans. Look at VW,BMW etc they introduce a car and continue to improve over the years with a face make up 2 to 3 years before they replace it. I hesitated orignally getting a Honda because of this, but it was and is the best van in the world. I only wish they would let me drive it until at least I've finished paying for it before they make a new one.
I still LOVE my Lagreat though.

I think that that volume and competition play large parts in the fast redesigns. Take the Accord and Civic, which typically have 4- or 5-year cycles. These are big sellers, so the tooling on the body panels gets paid for much quicker than say a BMW 7 series (though the higher profit on the 7 series helps!). In addition, there are plenty of competitors for the Accord and Civic, and with the others coming out with new models, Honda has to redesign a lot more often in order to keep them best sellers.
