I would think so...

Amazingly, if you enter zip code 94544 (which is where I live in the San Francisco Bay Area) for an Odyssey EX-L at carsdirect.com, the price they quote is MSRP -$300. This is one of the most expensive areas in the country, where only a year ago you could not get an Odyssey for less than $1,000 over MSRP locally.

So I would think you should be able to get at least $500 off MSRP...!

What would you people think a good deal is for EX-L???

I'm seeing $500 below MSRP for LX? But EX-L?

Thanks
I got $1100 off MSRP witrh no dealer add ons in Dallas, TX. More than covered my $89 plane ticket from Atlanta to get it.

I hear that the dealer in Arlington, TX (near Dallas) is giving $2100 off MSRP with no add ons, too.

$2100 Off Sticker

I just purchased a new '03 Ody 5 days ago (12/9/2002). I bought the EX-L RES, Midnight Blue Pearl, for $2,100 below the dealer's sticker price, including destination. The EX-L RES has factory leather and factory DVD entertainment system. The dealer had already added tint to the front 2 windows and he had already added DigiShield. I estimated the true value of the tinting and DigiShield to be $200 to $250. So my "real" discount off the sticker price was probably closer to $1,850.

The dealer is Vandergriff Honda, Arlington, Texas. The salesman and the sales manager were both great to work with. They were polite, helpful and willing to negotiate. No sneaky deals.

Oh, and as an added bonus they gave me 2 free oil changes at their shop plus any of the Odyssey accessories I wanted at their cost - no mark up. The oil changes and reduced price accessories add a little to the value of the deal. In total I feel that I got close to a $2,000 real money discount.

Good luck with your Odyssey purchases. And have a merry Christmas!

working internet dept works, exl msrp-1800

a bit about me first. i am not with any dealership, nor with honda, or any other car manufacturer, etc. just a regular guy trying to get the best deal and hopefully seeing the state of electronic commerence.

here are my travels.

so many people to thank for tips on dealing, dealerships that deal and my friends at www.edmunds.com for similar info.

Did all of my research thru edmunds.com and odyclub.com, generating a list of dealers to contacts thru these sites and used hondacars.com to get dealers not found in those sites and to check the dealers inventories for odyssey stock. i contacted 58 dealers from portions of NJ,NY,CT,PA,DE,OH,TX,FL,MD via email ( 437 emails over 29 days, 11/15/02, to the end 12/14/02).

Some of the dealers denied ever making those deals found in these threads. Others ignored my emails. Other dealers responded to my emails with 'come in an lets talk' to which i responded that i wanted a written log of what was said an agreed to. A rare few treated email like a regular way of communication.

I quickly found out that no nyc area dealer, which i live around, would deal. most offered msrp, some offered msrp-350 if i waited 2 months. further pushing showing other areas around the country prices let to a mostly msrp - 500.i know this excludes staten island honda which some have used for msrp-1200 or so, but they would never return my numerous emails. if telephone usage is an option for you, other swear by Eric Tisdel at that dealership for good pricing.

i expanded my search to every dealership in NJ, western CT, albany Ny south, which did not find much difference to the msrp - 500.

by now i kinda opened up PA,DE,MD but i received a very low response rate and those who did where not offering much of a deal.

TX and FL dealers where dealing ( from internet research ) but email seemed like a foreign concept to them. I only got a few replies and were relatively worthless. only one gave me decent email service and good prices, southeastern honda but the old wait list applied and was not eager to work shipping options.

OH dealers where dealing ( from internet research ) and they spoke and treated email like a way of doing business. I was seeing prices that more than paid for shipping from OH or going their myself.

One really stood out. A straight shooter, dennis jenkins at jay honda ( cleveland area ). during my travels in these threads for the lowest price that i could confirm with dealers, i would present them to dennis and he would equal them, with his manager after awhile once the prices got below some magical area. when my wife went thru varying odyssey trim lines, dennis was a real trooper, very professional and would get right on our new request. i have to say by far the best experience in any online shopping i have ever had. real customer service thru email. He even researched and offered, at his costs, several options on shipping to NJ.

So with my ford windstar lease expiring i came to the conclusion that dennis had the best offer, best customer support and more than earned my business. I saved enough money to ship the odyssey to NJ, then back to cleveland, then back to NJ, then back to cleveland or just pickup a one-way $111 amtrak business class ticket to cleveland and save even more. ok i have my limitations, a $80 greyhound i cant do.

If you dont like talking to dealers, want to do just email( my first phone contact was to give my CC deposit after i had the Vin number , the offer sheet faxed, it was in-stock, etc. ) want straight honest talk, no dealer pressure for add-ons, no surprises, contact dennis at jay honda and tell him s roberts sent ya lol.

I got my red EX-L for around $27000, $50 doc fee, 19.75 temp OH tags ( to drive home if i want to ). sales tax to be paid to nj when i reg it their.

enjoy your travels.....

I just picked up my EX-L with DVD in nighthawk black on Friday. I was able to get 1200 off MSRP. They also gave me a cargo liner and a cargo cover for wholesale price. ($74 and $99). I love my new ody.

I got 4% over dealer invoice for an '03 EX-L in Central Florida. Price was $27,051 plus 195, taxes (6%), tag & title ($65).

E-mail me at gene.morgan@siemens.com for a referral if interested. I checked over 15 dealers in FL and this was the only one that would deal more than $500 from MSRP. Many wanted more than MSRP. I was very pleased. They are setting up a 'no haggle' pricing concept with my company that employs several thousand people in this area. :)

How much for EX-L

I live here in Long Island, and after shopping around for more than a month , nobody was offering below MSRP, including New Jersey.
So with my present car ready to give up soon, I decided to go ahead and put an order in about a month ago for an EX-L. I actually managed to get $100 below MSRP. Hey, it's better than nothing. But I look at it this way: paying sticker for an Odyssey is a better bargain than buying a Chrysler, Ford, Chevy with leather close to invoice. My Odyssey should be here in 2 weeks. Can't wait

Wayyy Overpriced!!

The domestics aren't worth anything close to sticker, hence when you buy em, you lose soo much of the value. I'm stunned by the resale of the Hondas!!!

I'm still trying to sell my current car (no trade in bargaining position) and waiting to save a few more bucks, I don't need minivan til springtime camping season hits here!

Which model did you get???

I don't know how far away from Battle Creek, MI, you are, but I remember noting that there is a dealer there selling at $1500 or maybe it was $2000 under MSRP for EX-L. I think I came across the name searching the Edmunds site's town hall discussion groups.

Otherwise, if you want to drive a few hours, Jacob's Twin Honda hear in the Chicago area has an special accounts team (i.e. non-commission sales force) for internet sales. Their standard deal is $1500 under MSRP if the car is in stock, or $1600 under if the car is inbound. If you do decide to go to Jacob's PM me and I'll give you the name of the woman I am working with there (and I'll split the $50 referral kick-back I allegedly will get). Otherwise, just check out the Jacob's Twin site (search google for it) and email their special accounts team.

And, there is allegedly another outfit here in Chicago called Fletcher Jones or something like that that offers $2000 under MSRP.

Hope this helps,

Mitch

2500$ off MSRP on EXL in Chicago

First I did a lot of reading on Edmunds.com

http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/We...ebX?50@95.n4jUbEGguyT.2@.ee93eaa!make=Honda&model=Odyssey&ed_makeindex=.ee93eaa

Then I started my search using email.

Send email to 4 dealers in Chicagoland from Edmunds.com and a couple of them replied. The one who was ready to communicate via email was Jacobs Twin. After couple more emails I put a deposit on EXL at Jacobs Twin for the Ody EXL coming in the February at 2000# off MSRP, but later Fletcher Jones emailed and since I have one deal secured I bargained the 2500$ off MSRP for Odyssey EXL from them. Plus they had the car I wanted in stock!

So I have got my financing through PeopleFirst and went to the dealer. (Fletcher Jones Imports, Internet sales Michael Frakes). The salesperson was very easy to work with. They have offered me a better rate then 4.89% PeopleFirst's. (Later I found even better rate 3.99% at Ohio Central Savings http://www.ocsavings.com which I'm going to refinance to save 600$ over 5 years)

When I came to the dealership the salesperson did not waste any time, from start to finish 2 hours, which included test drive, vehicle presentation, all insurance and finance stuff. (And a short break to grab a sandwich - my wife went there straight from work)

The price for my Sandstone Metallic Odyssey EXL is 26360$ (2500$ off MSRP) plus ttl and standard 52$ doc fee.

Love the car. Great experience! The salesperson was really trying to please us.

Now since I took back my deposit from Jacobs Twin Honda, you might be able to get the van I backed out of in a couple of weeks for the same 2000$ off.

I have also bought a 7 years / 100000 miles /0$ deductible from them for 895$, but only after I said that this is what it will take to get all 5 in the customer satisfaction survey. They seem to care a lot about this survey, because the price they started with was 1500$

To tell you the truth I would never believe that I will be able to say that the dealer experience was great - but with the Internet magic it is quite possible.

I hope my post will help someone to negotiate a better deal. All previous posts sure helped me.

Thank you.

When and what model year?

I'm too lazy to drive all the way to Fletcher Jones, but I'm wondering about the deal you got at Jacob's.

When did you get this deal and was it for a 2002 or 2003? The reason I ask is I am waiting for my 2003 to arrive at Jacob's and am wondering if I should pursue $2000 under instead of the $1600 under I currently have.

Also, was there a trade-in involved?

Thanks,

Mitch

Fletcher Jones deal

It was 2003 Sandstone Metallic Odyssey EXL for 26860$ including destination at Jacobs Twin ( and a three week wait).

At Fletcher Jones the same car was 26360$ including destination and it was in stock.

No brainer. 500$ less and no wait.

Both were very easy to deal with.

My arguments in negotiations were:
1 new plant in Alabama (increased supply)
2 reduced demand because of new Toyota Sienna 2004 coming out in a month or so
3 I had financing secured and was ready to close the deal, so the dealer knew if they would not deal with me someone will. ( there are 22 honda dealerships within 50 miles from my house)

Thanks to this forum and rnmomx2 for latest price trends, it saved me a lot of time shopping for my '03 Ody.

I just put in a deposit to hold the Sage Brush Pearl EXL-RES at Victory Honda in Detroit for $2000 off MSRP. I shopped via email and phone the last four days and found 3 dealers willing to give $2000 off. 3 others were going to go no lower than $1000. I went to the nearest one who matched this deal as he had both colors we were interested in. After my wife looked at it last night, I went in this morning and started the paper work.
I've put in an application at ocsavings.com for the 3.99% apr financing, but they said it takes >24hrs to process an app. As soon as they are done, I'll pickup my new ody.

Around Detroit area, almost all the dealers had a couple Odys in stock or were expecting a particular trim in a week or two.

Congrats, glad I could be of help to you! Ours just came in today, we took it for a test drive and left it for them to install the back-up sensors we decided to get. Will take it home Saturday, can't wait! Did you get any other "freebies" thrown in, such as oil changes or accessories? Glad to hear you're getting a good deal, keep us posted!!

These are some pretty amazing prices I've seen listed here on these pages. The best I've been able to do here in MA is 28000 for an EX-L before tax, etc, and that's at a dealer I bought 2 Accords from already. Everyone else here is offering list MSRP. Has anyone in New England seen pricing like they're reporting in the Mid-West or in the South? I was hoping that the new Sienna would help drive the price of the Ody down but I just saw the prices released today for the Sienna and the Ody is still the best deal in town, even at MSRP.
