How Often to Replace Variable Valve Timing Solenoid?

There is no VVT solenoid. These engines do not have VVT. You have the VCM variety so you don't even have VTEC. All you have is a standard SOHC engine with VCM.

What you should do is monitor the front VCM spool valve (by the oil dipstick) for a leak. That leak will drip oil into the alternator, which would cause a problem.

This is from Honda News:
"Contributing to fuel efficiency, the 3.5-liter i-VTEC V-6 engine exclusive to the Odyssey EX-L and Touring models benefits from Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) technology that provides the capability to seamlessly deactivate either two or three of the engine's six cylinders during cruising and deceleration. An "ECO" light near the speedometer provides driver feedback when the vehicle is operating at an optimal level of fuel efficiency."

Im confused.
Honda markets this confusingly. VCM works in the same way that VTEC does, so they call it an i-VTEC system. But there is no "performance boost" VTEC like you would think of when you think of VTEC. It's just VCM.

So are the EX engines better / faster than EX-L?
They have the same power and torque peak values at the same RPM. The non-VCM engines do not have VVT either. The only difference is VTEC on the LX/EX vs VCM on the EX-L and Touring.

The lack of VTEC causes decreased bottom end torque on the VCM engines.

Back to our engine.... 0-30 sucks. No punch. But since its at 180k miles you yall think it just needs a tune-up?
No such thing as a tuneup on modern engines.

No VTEC can hurt things quite a bit. I know this from my experience. My 06 (EX so no VCM and thus has VTEC) has a quicker feel to it than my Accord V6 (which has VCM and no VTEC).
