My one seems to hunting around 40 mph, when I let go of accel pedal.
The gear change is not smooth.

Mine seems very smooth. I don't notice any "hunting" or hesitation at any speed. In fact, I would be hard pressed to tell you exactly when mine shifts, unless of course I really tromp the accelerator. I only have 200 miles on mine, though.

I have not experienced any hunting. In fact the transmission is smooth that its hard to detect when it is shifting except for watching the tach.

Traded a '99 with 34000 miles that was already on tranny #2 for our 2002, so I know about "unsmooth" gear changes (as well as leaking transmission fluid, etc). I have to say, the 2002 5-speed is head and shoulders above the old 4-speed transmission, ours is ultrasmooth, no complaints at all.

Ours is "ultrasmooth" as well. No complaints at all. Just over 3 months old with just over 2K miles.

We have about 5K miles/ 3 months old and its smooth. We do get that transmission shifting down (like if the A/C kicks in) when we are stopped at a light sometimes, but from other posts it sounds like i am not alone (re Odyclub forum, problems and concerns, page 2, "transmission shift while idling"). My 2002 Ody with 3200 miles has the reverse "clunk" when cold discussed before on the forum when the temps outside drop below 30F or so. I've avoided the problem for the most part by backing into my garage at night.
Everything else is smooth as glass. It was delivered from the factory with the famous oil residue, but after a good clean up has stayed dry.
