I agree with the fuel pump issues for not running the vehicle too low on fuel too often.
As for the concern about sucking up any trash in the fuel tank, what difference does the fuel level make? The fuel pickup is at the bottom of the tank, for obvious reasons. If you fill up in the evening, drive home and park for the night, any junk in the fuel that's going to settle will do so and in the morning, it'll get picked up when you start the car. That's what fuel filters are for. If it's in the tank, it's going to get sucked up sooner or later, no matter what you do.
