Honda Adds Capacity at Canada Plant as Sales Expand

Alliston, Ontario: Honda Motor Co. added capacity to build
10,000 more light trucks a year in Canada to meet growing U.S.
demand for the second-biggest Japanese automaker's sport-utility
vehicles and minivans.
Annual output at Honda's Alliston, Ontario, plant was raised
by 6 percent to 190,000 units to ease tight supplies of the luxury
Acura-brand MDX sport-utilities and Odyssey minivans built there,
spokesman Yuzuru Matsuno said.
The C$3 million ($1.9 million) expansion also gives the plant
more flexibility when production of the Pilot, a new midsize sport-
utility, begins next year, Matsuno said.
The addition comes as Honda, the No. 5 auto brand in the
U.S., looks for global sales to rise 6 percent to 2.81 million
vehicles next year. U.S. demand for the Odyssey, MDX and CR-V
sport-utility rose 24 percent in November from the year-earlier
period and sales of the models are up 8.7 percent this year.
