This was the Honda kit that comes with everything including the painted sensors (around $450 mail ordered). After I got over the thrill of drilling holes in the $$$$ bumper it was pretty easy. I drilled first to get that part out of the way, ran the wires inside and put the bumper back on.

The instructions are very good. Looking back, I do not feel it is necessary to completely remove the drivers side trim. You only need access to the rear area so the trim will bend out of the way without needing to remove the 2nd row seat belt. The passenger side access is gained without removing the entire panel.

The instructions are not clear on where to mount the control box. After the power door box is remove, the backup-box mounts next to it, pointing towards the rear, using an oval hole to the left and below the power door control box.

I got 7/8" and 1" hole saws from Home Depot and they worked fine. There is not much room for error so keep the drill steady.

I did not mount the on/off switch. Did not want to drill a hole and may eventually get the Touring dash switch. My switch is hanging inside the trim close to the jack for now.

Wash your hands lots. The trim and headliner gets dirty easily.

Update - I added pictures below.

Great news on the install. Did you take pictures? Or At least take a picture of your final install? :)

How do they work?

I took a few pics with the bumper off. I can post later. Other than that nothing was very interesting. Just lots of black wire loom wire tied to the wire loom already installed in the car. The install PDF pics show everything.

Inquiring minds want to know. Can the OEM kit sensors pickup a short, stationary child behind the van? Perhaps like a 2-3 year old who you couldn't see if they were within a few feet of the bumper?

I tested with my 2 year old yesterday. It can see him easily. The system in our Audi will beep if it sees the Sunday paper in the driveway. I assume the Honda one will be of similar sensitivity.

How many feet does it start to beep at? And how many feet does the beep go solid at?

To detect a newspaper on the ground must be ultra sensitive. Is hondas like that?

I was looking at the install instructions--are the sensors installed 4 in a row straight across the bumper? I know the touring has the farthest two sensors up higher on the bumper than the middle two.

BTW I am talking about a Sunday Washington Post which is about 9" high. Ultra sensitive is when it beeps for a leaf, which I have seen happen with a crappy aftermarket system.

It starts beeping at 4-6' depending on how large the object is. The sensors are installed in the same location as the Touring. The middle ones are just below the edge and the sides are up higher on the higher side area of the bumper.

Here is a pic with the bumper off.

BTW the control unit has volume controls inside the case. Take the cover off and there 2 on the printed circuit board. One for the high tone of the outside sensors and one for the low tone of the inside ones.

Just got my rear sensors installed on my 06.

Does anyone else notice the first slow beeps don't last long? Seems like its only a few inches from the slow beeps to where it the audible sounds turn into the fast beeps. The fast beep area is around 12 inches to wear it turns to the solid.

My concern is the area of the first slow beeps only a few inches or are my sensors defective?

Thanks in advance.

Ours does the same thing. Many times, we get no slow beeps at all. Our Audi does the same thing.

There are volume controls on the printed circuit board of the control box. Remove the spare tire and unsnap and pull the trim back. Remove the power door control box (2 10mm bolts holdind a plastic box behind the spare tire area.). Just to the left and below where the control box was, there is another 10mm bolt. Remove that bolt and pull the backup sensor control box out of the hole. Unsnap the cover and there are 2 volume adjustments on the board. A small screw driver may be needed to adjust them. Since there are 2, I assume that one is for the high pitched outer sensors and the other is for the low pitched inner sensors.

Ah man--Looks like i'll have to give it a try for the volume-- Though I noticed my switch is a little sticky- I have to press it a few times to turn it off and back on. Is yours like that? I may have to bring it back to the dealer.

Also--Does your light turn on the switch on the D pillar? I only noticed it turned on when i'm testing my sensors with the parking brake and key turned to accessory and shifter to reverse. If I have my head lights on the light does not illuminate.

I did not drill a hole and install the switch. We have no reason to turn it off and I was worried it would be turned off by accident. I left the switch attached to the plug and it hangs inside the trim close to the jack. It is not sticky. I am not sure about the light.

I have no plans to turn it off either. I'm wondering if I should have the dealer replace the sticky switch or not. I wonder if it'll cause problems in the future years of the ody.

Here is another question. I asked my dealer about the backup sensor install.

2 corner sensors are flush with the bumper.

2 middle sensors are sticking out 1/8 of an inch. Is that normal? They claimed it was.

Ours look identical to what the Touring came with from the factory. Drive around until you find a Touring :). The middle sensors are angled up at the bottom and thus stick out more than the ones on the edges. There is no gap between the bumper and sensor and the sensor covers the hole for a clean install.
