I have a 2009 EX-L engine that I am rebuilding. Both of the cams need replacing.
Did Honda use the J35A7 in any other vehicles? That way I have a larger pool of vehicles to search from.
I was going to check the auto wreckers for a suitable replacement.
I have read many of the threads about cams in the forums and many of you very knowledgeable gentleman have said you wouldn't trust aftermarket cams. So I plan to stay away from them.
I called the dealer and the front cam is $250 and the rear is $650, ouch. I get it because the rear head is where all the VCM magic happens.
I live in Calgary Alberta Canada just to add more context to where I'm searching.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the prices correct? Generally it's the front cam that has been the more expensive one as it's the one that gets pitted more frequently and even went on backorder for a while a couple years back.

Just the J35A7 code is a bad way to look, because the 05-07 EX-Ls used the J35A7 too but Honda did something silly and had two versions of the J35A7 that are quite different. The 05-07 version is VCM-1, the 08-10 version is VCM-2.

But as far as what cams are interchangeable, obviously the 08-10 J35A7 (so 08-10 EX-L/Touring). In addition, you have all 11-17 Odysseys (J35Z8) and all 09-15 Pilots (J35Z4). Note that while the 08-12 Accord V6 automatic (J35Z2) is very similar to the other two, it is not compatible as it uses different cams.

For future reference, Honda parts catalogs have a vehicle fitment tab to see what vehicles use the same part number.
