Over the last year or so, I have had the typical ignition lock issue. If it won't turn, remove/insert, until it does. I have tried spraying some stuff in there that is made to free it up, but it didn't seem to help any. Doesn't seem to be getting worse, or better.

I have hoping this is simply a case of the wafers being gummed up a bit. My plan is to remove the cylinder, and clean/lube the wafers.

I saw one video where someone just removed all the wafers and I have considered doing this. The immobilizer will still do its job, so someone stealing using any random key wouldn't be a problem. And I wouldn't have to worry about a recurrence of the sticky wafer issue.

Has anyone done this?

It's generally worn out wafers and NOT sticking wafers, AFAIK.
I took mine apart and removed 3 of the wafers and put it back together and it works smoothly.
If I have to go through the trouble of doing it again, I will take cylinder and parts to a locksmith and get all new wafers.
Yes, I saved the old one and marked down their numbers and locations.
