Well, I've had my Ody for over a year now and have still been parking it waaaay out in parking lots to hopefully keep the parking lot dings to a minimum and get a little exercise. So far it's worked.

Until today, that is. My mom doesn't walk very well anymore and we used her handicap parking permit to keep the van close while we visited a friend in the hospital and while in there, some parking expert caved in the bottom half of my driver's door.

I had felt relatively safe because the parking spots were so big, but just not big enough, I guess.

Oh, well. Just felt like bitchin'.

I went almost a year before I got my first parking lot kiss. Just a few days after it got Zaino'd, some jerk left a nice dent in my passenger side door. Morons don't are about anybody's else's stuff...

That just stinks. It always happens when you park up close too. I guess the idiots gravitate towards the front of the lot. I hope it gets fixed quickly and easily!

I know how we get attached to these things-someone (but not me!) scraped the driver's side mirror on the garage door springs this weekend and I nearly flipped.

It's a sad day in Odyville.

Chuck,
If it was a "slam and run" you might be able to go to hospital security and have them rerun their surveilance tapes to try and get a license number or description of the offender's vehicle.

Thanks for the support and kind words, folks.

Sixtn39, no real need to chase anybody down and it probably doesn't matter anyway. I'd bet money that the person who did it has his head in a cloud and would go to his grave being absolutely and totally convinced that he wasn't the culprit and was just being blamed for something he didn't do.

In a way, I'd feel a little better if it was a "slam and run". At least that would indicate that the cretin who did it was just trying to avoid being caught.

In fact, probabably the *expert* who did this was one of those who hasn't a clue where his/her car ends and someone else's begins and didn't even know it had happened. It's one of those cases where there was likely no "bump" felt as the other driver pulled into or out of the adjacent parking slot -- just a push of his/her bumper into and out of my door as his car arced through the turn.

Sorry to hear about the dent Chuck. =(

I still don't understand why some folks care more about their stereo, cell phone, pda, computer, living room sofa, or china but not their cars which costs thousands more. Go figure.

Thanks,
Errol

Thanx, Errol. I guess it's just something we're stuck with. That doesn't mean I have to like it, though.
....and I sure as hell wish it would quit rubbing off on the rest of us!

Chuck,

Sorry to hear about your "loss". I know that the little scratch that our neighbor's boy put in the rear passenger quarter panel about 6 weeks after purchase left a sting that has not completely subsided. Of course, these things can be fixed, but they're never the same! I curbed our ody and scratched the rim this past weekend. As was said before, it is truly a sad day in Odyville.

Chuck,
So sad. I had a fence post blow over and hit my hood in a storm. All I could do was sing, "Smile though your heart is breaking..."

Dave

PS - I once saw a classic (40s?) Bentley convertible get rear-ended at a red light. My whole body cringed and I felt the pain of the driver - or 1% of it. I decided then that I would always think of my cars as vehicles that could be replaced with a check.

I think that the guy who hit you did not hear the impact due to the expert soundproofing you did.

That would be a good trick!

MY WIFE backed our 92 Civic almost THROUGH the garage door. I had 2 aluminum plates made at work to repair the door, the Civic's bumper was slightly scratched.

Damn Chuck, that sucks.

I was holding you out as the last person on Odyclub to get a dent. Well, since confession is good for the soul...

- I was backing my Ody out of the driveway one day when a strange feeling starting creeping up my spine. I slammed on the brakes just in time...my Accord was parked in the driveway behind the van. :-\ ...hey, you try gathering up and putting two kids into their car seats, locking the door to your house, grabbing movies that need to be returned to the rental place and see if you forget a certain detail...

- My wife ran over a sign.
Yes, that's right, a SIGN. It was a 4-foot high stop sign that moved from place to place at the school where our 4 year old goes to school because of construction. It left several nasty marks on the plastic and 2 irreparable scratches on the paint just about the driver's side fenderwell. With a microfiber and about 15,000 rubs I got 99.9% of the black marks off the plastic (damn I was sore for days) but I havent touched the 2 2" long scratches in the paint. ...luckily my wife stopped immediately after she realized what happened and had the construction guy jack the van up to removed the stopsign from under the van instead of continuing to drive. (it had gotten tangled underneath).

- Finally, my favorite story; right around the corner from where I work, there's a warehouse that gets Lamborghinis and Ferraris from time to time. One day one of the little teenagers who unload them (see a problem here?) decided to take it 'around the block' for a joyride. ...he ran a red light directly below me and slammed into another car!
I was just mentally tallying the damage (I *do* have some digital pics I took from my window...let me dig them up and I'll post them) and the possibility this guy would have the money to pay for it and couldn't help but feel bad for him.
