I am aware this is fairly uncommon but the shop I took my van to for the swap said they've done it on several odyssey's and pilots and i've seen one or two threads on here of people that have done the same but they were one post wonders unfortunately.
In essence the swap is this:
Cheap low miles JDM 3.0L to replace the 3.5L
All the sensors from the old engine are swapped to the new one
Transmission, timing cover, intake manifold, injectors, fuel rail, spark plugs, coil packs etc. are all swapped to the new engine.
Everything runs on the stock 3.5L ECU
I saw a post where someone had done the same thing on his 06 Ody but and had rich codes and fuel trims he could not get to go away. Initially I had the same thing and extensively checked everything fuel or intake related I could think of. (Injectors between the two engines are the exact same part number and actually fit a range of Honda J Series engines)
What I settled on is that it needs a valve adjustment, considering I don't know the history of the engine and tight valve lash can cause unexplained rich conditions that the ECU tries to make up for with negative fuel trims. So my van is going in for a valve adjustment this weekend as well as getting an oil leak fixed (shops fault when they reassembled the long block)
If you're wondering why I swapped the engine at all it is the dreaded result of VCM
the van was driven completely stock for most of its lifetime and was well used as a daily driver and family road trip/camping vehicle. lots of highway miles with VCM doing its damage. When I was passed down the van it was too late and by the time I muzzled it i was just buying time. The shop it took it to did a leak-down test because of extreme oil consumption and they declared it dead without a costly full rebuild. They then pointed me in the direction of a much cheaper alternative of the JDM swap.
Please ask away if you have any questions or want to give your dying van new life!
