I need a new keyless entry remote. I am aware that Honda requires me to purchase the remote from them and then bring the remote and vehicle to the dealer so they can program everything. My question has two parts: 1) I am sure the remote is expensive, can I get it cheaper anywhere? 2) Is there a way to program the remote myself to avoid the dealer charge?

I also need a replacement key which also has to be programmed by Honda so the same question applies, is there a way to do it myself? I would appreciate any help. Thanks

Chris

I am in this same situation and was wondering what you found or if anyone knows where I can find the keyless entry remote. I missed the one being auctioned on Ebay. My dealer quoted me $100.00 for 1 remote.
Thanks!

For the remote - they are often seen on ebay. Just be patient. You'll definitely save a good amount of money. As for programming it check out the instructions here: http://www.honda-odyssey.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000043.html

I'm not sure about the key. I know it has a unique chip in it. I've seen some (but not many) blank keys on ebay also. Once you get them - take it to the dealer to have them do whatever they have to do. Again you will still save SOME money.

Remind me to be extra careful w/ my remotes! Why $100? That seems a bit high for a remote control...Honda using gold filaments on the transitors or something?

For comparison, or if one doesn't turn up on ebay, the remotes are $53.40 (list is $74.20) each for the 99 EX. The ones for the 2001 are $90.60 each.

My thoughts exactly! I'm not sure who does the buying (or choosing what to charge for stuff) at Honda but they really vary a lot. A set of two LX add on keyless remotes for a CRV is $66. A single remote for an EX CRV is about $120!!

I don't have them on the site (yet) but you can always call me at 888-440-8655 for anything that isn't listed on the site
