I have a week-old White EXL-RES. The brake pedal has approx 1/4 inch of lateral play. I took it to the dealer - mechanic said it was due to the "breakaway" mechanism, whereby the brake pedal arm gives way in an accident rather than crushing your foot. He said some play is typical for Ody's and there's no adjustment he can make.

I dunno - I'm maybe 50% sold by this explanation. Every other car I've had has had a rock solid brake pedal.

Any ideas out there? Quick poll - do you have any lateral play, or is it tight?

Thanks,

Tom A.

Our 5 day old MB EXL-RES has brake pedal play that you describe. I'll look at the cause later.

Ours has the same lateral play. I had it on my list of "issues" to address at the first service, but apparently this is normal. I didn't notice it at first, but now I can't stop wiggling the brake pedal with my foot at stops and thinking "I wish this thing weren't so loose."

Our other issues after 1,600 miles are a pass. side power door that used to made a slight grinding noise when closing (it seems to have lubricated itself over time), a lazy driver's side power window that sometimes needs help going up, and the creaking front suspension/strut issue. I think ours was one of the early 'Bama vans. Not bad overall, but more issues than I expected from a Honda.
