A slight turning in of the gaskets/rubber stoppers & the hatch closes w/ the momentum of pulling down on the inside handle. No need to touch the outside at all; just a gentle downward pull...

..traveltheater has arrived; i'll install it w/ some detailed instructins (& pics) for those who are interested...
