My 2000 LX with nearly 200k miles is having similar A/C problems to those described by the EX/EX-L owners with Transitor Assembly issues. However, this is an LX and doesn’t have the auto climate controls described by the EX/EX-L owners.
In my van the A/C would be working fine, and then randomly would stop blowing cold. Blower continued working fine, things just got hot. Upon inspection of the center console controls, the A/C & Heat control cluster would show no selection lights. We attempted to randomly press the buttons (air direction, A/C, window defrost, etc.) to see if they'd toggle the light/selection on/off. No success. Attempted to adjust blower level and both front and rear would adjust normally, and independently. After a period of time the lights would reappear on the control cluster and the a/c would begin working again. This on/off interval continued for several weeks, but when we took it in to the shop it always seemed to be working. Our repairman suggested waiting until it hard broke as to ease diagnosis efforts.
My first thought was towards a faulty center console control cluster, but in many respects it sounds the same as all you EX/EX-L owners who experience Transistor Assembly issues. However, upon inspection under the dash on passenger side it doesn't appear I have the same configuration. (Didn’t find the white connector attached to the part in question, just a much smaller black connector... I don't think they're the same).
Any ideas?
