Made a new friend in the dealer service dept.

Tomorrow's going to be a sad day for me -- my project car ('78 Camaro LT) will be leaving my garage for good and going to a better home. I just haven't found the time or money to do anything with it and as a result it has occupied garage space for 10 years now. While talking to the dealer about the status of my order (now looks like mid-April delivery) I mentioned that I had a car that I needed to get out of the garage. I'm having a contractor come by to replace the garage doors and I'll then be working on getting the garage in shape as a suitable nest for the Ody, so the old girl's gotta go. I priced it to move, which is to say -- free. Yep, come by and get it out of the garage and give it a good home and the title's yours. The salesman I'm working with passed the info around the shop and I had a call back in short order. A guy that works in the service department wanted it, and he's pretty happy about the deal even though the car's going to need a lot of work (some body work, paint, interior, engine rebuild, etc.). Of course, who wouldn't be happy about a free car, eh?

So now I have a new friend in the dealer service dept. that owes me one or two favors, and the Camaro will finally get back on the road where she belongs.

Are they going to throw in splash guards or cross bars for that?

At one point I thought about gutting it and turning it into a dirt track car and go racing at Battleground, but for some reason my better (and often smarter) half vetoed that idea. <sigh>

I have 2 similar stories:

(1) My first car was a '77 Camaro. I bought it from its original owner in April, 1982. Did the typical intake/headers/fat tires gearhead kid stuff to it. I parked it in very good condition in 1987 when I joined the Navy and it hasn't moved an inch since then. My Father keeps bugging me to come and get it but I don't have room since we have a '79 Corvette as a third car.

(2) The first car that my Wife and I bought together was a 1985 Camaro. It was like a family pet to us. We sold it last year after 218,000 miles.
