I've ready many posts here and at car-seat.org about how a seat belt extender should not be used for various reasons.

But those reasons, e.g., changing the geometry of the seat belt, do not seem to apply when using this MINI seatbelt extender. Being used with a booster, I can't see how this would significantly affect the geometry of the seat belt. No way that the buckle would be on my kid's belly or less than six inches from the belly button.

Granted, it's another potential point of failure, but are there other applicable safety issues?

Another issue is that I haven't found a reputable seller for this item.

What do you think?

I would check the owner's manual for both child restraint and vehicle as a first step.

The only way to verify correct fit is with the child in the actual booster. My suggestion would be to visit a child safety seat inspection event and have a certified technician verify. Seatcheck Saturday is coming September 24th and there are tons of free events nationwide!
